I just received a new showdown this week, so I wanted to test it out on the ice before everything melts. I went to strawberry this morning, and arrived at around 8am. Luckily there was somewhere I was able to park with my not so snow worthy two door car. The first hole I set up didn't have any activity on the showdown, so I moved shallower and further into the bay. The next hole had some activity.
Tube jigs were getting bites, but no hookups, so I switched up to a jigging rapala. That worked for a nice 18 inch rainbow.
Well, the jig rap only got that one fish, so I tried numerous spoons in different sizes and colors, until finally a red & white dardevle produced a cutt. When it stopped fighting I thought I had lost it, but it was just folded in half inside the hole and couldn't move [crazy].
After that, I lost a few rainbows at the hole. They wanted the jigs tipped with worms, but were nibbling at the worm, and rarely taking the hook all the way. But the bites were steady. There was a ton of fish showing on the finder from 5 - 20 ft down, in 30 ft of water. A few were on the bottom, but they wouldn't bite anything. Switched back to the jiggin rap and got another rainbow.
After getting lunch in Heber, I made a quick stop to Deer Creek. Got the skunk, but there was a lot of weird activity on the finder (schools of fish shooting up off the bottom, one fish at 35ft that didn't budge the whole time..). Did come across a nice IceKill though [cool]
