Upper Salmon River Etiquette
#1
Spring steelhead season is upon us up here on the upper salmon and I've noticed several things that would't fly on other river systems that seem to be the norm up here.......... If your boat isn't ready to launch don't back down the ramp and hold it up for those of us that have our boats ready. 2nd don't block the ramp with your boat, launch and pull it over to the side so others can use it. If a boat is on anchor and there is ample room to float behind the boat do so, so you aren't floating over water people are fishiing. Lastly if you are the idiot steelhead fishing from a jetski you aren't making any friends up here............

Deadwater is still holding steady. I've witnessed this on the river around salmon but thats irrelivant as this is common courtesy that should be practiced on all bodies of water.

Gotta completely agree with you on this! Seems like people jammin up the boat ramp is becoming way too common these days. And the jet ski thing on the river? Be kinda funny to use that guy for casting for accuracy practice as he is cruising by!
Curious what boat ramps are useable out there right now. I will be out there next week and any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Guys chill out, use it as a teachable moment, get out there and help em out. Maybe it's new equipment or they don't know the "rules". Worse that could happen is they see you coming next time and give you right of way so you don't help them again. We unload 30 bass boats in as many minutes because we "train" to it. Nothing sux as much as having the "public" loading a boat while drunk at a weigh in. Casting at a boat is no different than shooting a gun, that will get you thrown in jail or sued. If you get in my zone, I'm gonna cast over your line and steal your rig, everytime. You'll think I'm the worst cast ever and move on. My pet peeve is folks fishing from a ramp dock and being rude about me using the dock.

Hell ya lady it's your elk, just let me get my Saddle off of it.

Tight lines fellas and remember, trout is for bait.

I'm hesitant to approach and educate these days with the mentality many anglers seem to have besides these are really just issues of common sense.

Just tryin to have a little fun with the casting comment. Believe me, I have politely tried to talk to people more than once about keeping the ramp clear and a lot of people don't take to constructive criticism these days. Fishing off the dock is a pet peeve of mine too. Several docks even have a sign that says "No fishing from dock" and I go to launch my boat and I get the evil eye because I am interrupting their fishing. Seems to be a great deal of me first and up yours attitudes these days. But I still run into plenty of great people on the water for the few bad ones.

Very well said sir!

It's Sad to see more & more people with the "me first, and eff u" attitude, but there are still some of us polite ones out there, let's try to not stoop to their level, and continue to set good examples of (a) how it's done- quick and efficient, and (b) how to share the waters.
