Skipped out of work this morning with a few of my co-workers to give the perch a try. I wasn't expecting much after reading posts from fellow BFTers that fished Indian Bay the last little while. But I knew where not to go. Beginning at 9am we drilled about 30 holes along a shallow submerged ridgeline and moved from hole to hole with the fish finder and a flasher to find the fish. It didn't take long before we found a school in 27 to 30 FOW. From then on until noon, when we decided to call it, the bite was pretty consistant. If fish were showing up on the finder they were usually willing to bite. Many times they would jet off the bottom to meet the lure coming down. I had planned to get the camera out and shoot more perch footage, but I just couldn't pry myself away from the catching. I kept thinking any minute now the fish will move off or quit biting and that will be it. It's a lot easier to catch a mess of perch when you're not trying to man a camera and a fishing pole. Most of them were caught on small Kastmasters tipped with perch eye. I iced 38 perch and one 18" bow, another co-worker who was also using a Kastmaster and eye iced 22 perch. The other two co-workers caught 2 perch each. I tried to get them to switch to a Kastmaster but they insisted on using what they had on. Oh well. Next time. Most of these perch were 9 - 10". Three of them measured 12". Pretty much all of them were fat and full of eggs.
If you're planning on hitting Starvation again for perch before ice out, shoot me a PM and I will gladly give you more details. I think I'll hit it again Friday morning depending on the weather.
Fish tacos for everyone at work tomorrow.

Wow man - that's some clear ice for this late in the season. Did starvy not get snow, or did it blow/melt off?
Just wish it weren't such a drive for me... one of these days .. . maybe a spring camp trip.
Nice perching. So - right on the castmaster, not dangling an ice fly below it as a flasher?

The snow melted a lot on Saturday and then Sunday and Monday it blew. Yes they were caught right on the Kastmaster. If you remember in my last video, they were hitting the Kastmaster pretty well. I rig the gizzy bugs and gizzilas that way; under as Kastmaster as the flasher.

I'm jealous for sure, guess I'll have to try again sometime but probably not this year. Do you think this weather we're having will affect the perch this weekend? I should of took your advice about location on monday but I had hooked up with TopH20 and WyoGu because they had good sucess the week before too. Where I had never been to Starvy before and seen how the fishing was in that whole indian bay I assumed it was just an off day so didn't move, that's just fishing. Glad you had another great day of perch'in.

I don't know what the weather will do to the bite, but I do know you guys were some tuff dudes to put up with that wind we had Monday. That was probably the worst weather day of the week. Like Tubedude has said, you need to give it a shot in mid-late June. The perch and walleye action is hot then.
