polo-dog, Chickamauga, Crappie, Best hour of fishing ever!, 3/4/13, Freida
#1
I fished for a few hours this afternoon, trying to get some confidence in throwing a TN rig. I didn't catch any on the TN rig but did get a better feel of the rigs that I recently purchased. I planned to fish the last hour of light fishing for crappie and I was glad that I did! The fish were very non aggressive to begin with as strikes were only seen with the line becoming just a wee bit slack. Later, towards dark, luckily the fish were hitting harder with a perceivable tap. I say luckily because at that point I could no longer see my line. Fished from 6:15 until 7:15 and had 29 crappie, all but one a keeper. I had two over 14 inches, and another 6 over 13 inches. Even the 12 inchers were over a pound! I would have caught more crappie but a 10lb drum latched onto my jig on one cast and didn't want to have to retie so had to get it into the boat after a long fight. For a while there it seemed that every cast got bit. I took one pic of a couple of the fish but one of the bigger ones was camera shy and I fished him/her out of my livewell after I had put the camera away. What a fantastic lake we have to enjoy! Big bass for the tournament guys and nice crappie for some of the rest of us!
