What a day! We had some serious ups and downs Saturday and it made for a memorable day. We started last since we blasted everyone off and went just a mile down river to a spot that I can usually squeeze a limit of spots out of, little did we know we would spend most of our day here making a 200 yard run up and down this area and produced fish every pass, we left for about thirty minutes to go down town and went straight back to the spot for the rest of the day. We lost a smallie that was around 5lbs right next to the boat about an hour before weigh in that really almost ruined our day, two casts later Tyler yells for the net again and up comes a fat spot that ended up taking big spot, se we felt a little better. At that time we had three fish that would go about 9.5lbs and was happy with it considering the weather and that I hadn't fished down there since last fall. Had 30 minutes or so left and decided to head in, when we got to the ramp there were a few boats ahead of us so I decided to make a few casts to the rock pile just down from the ramp. First cast with the shakey the rod loaded up and took off for deep water, I had already caught two drum over 10lbs and figured this was another, about that time a monster smallie jumps from the water and I about had a heart attack....after a minute that seemed like an hour of fighting what a knew was a 5+ smallie we netted her and headed for weigh in, I would have never guessed it was over 6lbs. I got my PB smallie and Tyler got his PB spotted bass and we ended up with 12.20 with a 3.3 spot and a 6.16 small mouth. Aside from the crappy cold rain that morning it was an awesome day for us, we had 4 smallies over 18" and 2 spots over 3lbs and a ton of short smallies and smaller spots, never caught the first large mouth. All fish were caught on a green pumpkin shakey, jerkbait and a t-rigged beaver.
