Jerry, Chickamauga, crappie, April 15, 2013, Jake
#1
My dog, jake, and I hit the trails for crappie today. We did shoot some docks and blow downs--caught about a dozen, all ten to eleven inch blacks. But we also trolled crankbaits for two hours and got another twenty, mostly white in the range of twelve to thirteen inches (two were eleven inches long) with one 15 1/2 inch beauty that was full of roe. I messed up the camera (battery problems) so pictures will have to wait until next week when we’ll go again.

I trolled quarter ounce Bombers (firetiger and silver/blue back) at 2 mph. I found the crappie in 15 feet of water along channel edges. Most were just outside the creek openings in the flats off the main channel. Water temp was 60-62 degrees. A surprise was that we caught no bass. That’s unusual so perhaps the bass are on/close to the beds already.
