Unity Oregon ....anyone? Bueller?
#1
Hey folks!
I'm going with a bunch of seniors / vets to Unity lake on Thursday 4/25/13. Kind of a charity fishing venture that my mom set up, I'm hoping to get my line wet some, but I expect I'll be running in "assistant mode" most of the day.

I know this is the Idaho forum. I posted in Oregon section too, but they don't get much action there Sad
It's a long shot, but I thought I'd check to see if any Idahoans ever make it up that-a-way.

We'll be at Unity Res, and maybe some below the dam.
Never fished there before, any tips would be super! Smile

I fish there a couple times a year. If I am fishing from the bank I park at the parking spot by the boat ramp. In this picture these are the laces I have fished from the bank.
Power bait and a crawler is the normal bait there. I fish them on the bottom and let the power bait float the crawler just off the bottom.
If you in a boat and trolling use a trolling rig like a ford fender or a beer can. Use a wedding ring and a night crawler. Troll about 1 mph and zig zag in and out to find where they are hiding. There are trout, crappie, and Bass there. The Bass can get huge there. So can the trout. Ron

Thanks Ron!
I won't be taking the pontoon, since I'll be helping others.
And, I don't have a boat. But if I ever get one, I'll get some quick-release bolts for my Ranger's fender, and try your "ford fender" trolling rig idea. [Image: happy.gif]

In the google pic, I see someone on a pontoon boat next to one of those spots LoL! Is it you??

I'll post up whatever happens tomorrow.
Cheers!

I have fished Unity a couple of times and the Bass are getting bigger each year. Unfortunately I fished it from a boat with a jig and twin tail grub so not much help on shore fishing. Caught some 4 and 5 pounders and I know there are bigger ones in there but they had just dumped in a million plus minnows and the Bass were full. I thought I was lucky to catch what I did. Definitely need to make another trip there soon.

Well it was an incredibly slow day. between 6 people (10 cancelled, "too early in the morning"), I saw a handful of trout reeled in, from about 13" to about 16". Pretty fish, just few & far between.

Ron, the left-corner of that point was the sweet spot.

We were on the water about 10am, left by 2. I didn't have a thermometer, but I think the water is still a tad cold. The lake was pretty full though, just a few feet below the high water mark. Spillways closed. I didn't get a chance to fish below the dam, the wind kicked up pretty good about the time everyone was ready to go, so I gave up on trying the flyrod down below.

Glad you got some. My uncle is 90 and I take him over there every year. He is blind and drives a boat. If you see me in the passenger seat of a small Boston whaler get off the water[laugh][laugh][laugh]
