Questions on Cats and Bass!

So Im going to take my 74 year old dad to the pump house in the morning. Does anyone have any news on how it has been, bait, and maybe a good spot. When it comes to Bass, when is the best time to start fishing for them I have a spot to go and fish that has plenty of them in there just don't know the best time frame to do so.
