One particular harbor
#1
I took my little girl out to Utah Lake today. I watched a few guys pick up some nice large mouth. I have fished one particular harbor for 20 plus years knowing that from time to time, some VERY large largemouth get caught there. I have not been one of the lucky ones to catch a hog. Well, today was my day. I watched some guys catch 3 respectable bass off a stretch of reeds about 30 yards long. I would say they were about 3 pounds on average. they were hitting it pretty hard with spinner baits and picking up a few. they left about 1230, so I anchored up and me and my girl enjoyed some pizza. I let the area rest for about 35 minutes, and then moved in for the kill. I scaled way down on presentation and went with a gold glitter tube jig very small. I have caught many nice bass on very small stuff. I started dropping it in the junk, and subtly moving in across the mud. it was on my 5th cast when I felt the tick. I set hard and that's when all hell broke loose. it felt like I had hooked a beaver. we fought for quite some time, I got her to the boat and could not believe what I was looking at. she had to be at least 10 to 12 pounds. she looked up at me, and decided to take another dive to the bottom. it was then that she decided she did not like the taste of my little jig, and she spit it out. I was not able to land this big girl today, but I thoroughly enjoyed feeling the strength and fighting the fight that I did today, in one particular harbor.
