Hey, I am taking my wheel-chair bound father fishing on Friday and need a little help. I have never fished Willard Bay before, but I would love to give it a try. I don't have a boat. Any recommendations on where to shore fish? Tackle? I took him to Walsburg a few weeks ago and he landed a couple trout, but the shoreline is a little too steep for the chair. It was not ideal. I was hoping to find a place that he could get close enough and feel comfortable. If I could get him a couple fish, it would make it that much better. If Willard isn't the place, what are your recommendations? He is not into catfish or we would hit UL.
Thanks in advance.

Most of the shorline on Willard Bay will be limited to a wheel chair. In most areas you will have to climb up and then down a rocky dike. You can access at the South Marina. Good luck and let us know how things go. There are some places at stawberry that would be readily accessible. There is also a handi capped ramp at Tibble Fork in American fork canyon. Maybe some others can chime in to help you out.

Unfortunately the only place that comes to mind is the north marina and it's still closed because of the diesel spill. Willard Bay is completely surrounded by two to six foot boulders making wheelchair accessibility very tough.
Best of luck to you though. I hope my boys are willing to take me out when I'm up in age. Good on ya.

You will have a hard time getting to shore with a wheelchair. Here is link that might be helpful.

Also there are a few people on here that might be willing to take you and your dad out. (deck boats) Maybe they will chime in.
Good luck[fishin]

Willard would be tough for a wheelchair.
You may want to try a Community Pond. Many of them have ramps and they are all stocked with trout now.

Hey Fish Stick,
I know a spot that is close to Willard that you can take your Dad to and let him fish. Try Mantua. There are docks that he can fish from both on the south side inlet area and across the lake on the north side. (The inlet area is much better fishing. The dock area was dug out and made deeper. Should be able to wheel him easy to the spot from the close by parking lots. There he can catch Bass,Bluegill, and Trout. You got to get there early though to claim your spot.
Dont try and fish the boat ramp docks though as you will get a ticket.
I think its cool you want to get your Dad out and wish you two the best of luck![cool]

hey stick, welcome. Bountiful Pond and Farmington pond are both wheelchair accessible. However my bud went to Bountiful Pond the other day and got skunked. I told him he can't go fishing with me till he catches a fish.... I don't need that bad mojo on my boat this year.
good luck. humpy

Thank you for all the suggestions. After all that, work decided to override my fishing plans at the last minute and everything fell through. Maybe this next week. I should have clarified that my dad can walk short distances and do stairs, but is limited in mobility.
I like hitting the community ponds every now and again but I think my dad would find them a little emasculating. I might as well bait, cast and set the hook for him. It's not his thing. That's the biggest issue. He wants to do all that he can and still consider it fishing. I might try to get him up to starvation. There are some areas near rabbit gulch that are relatively accessible.
Thanks again.
