Patience pays off
#1
So I went to Sportsmans today to buy an ugly stick since I broke a fishing pole a couple of weeks ago. After that I hit up the Jordan River in pursuit of catfish. Get to my spot, WAM pole slams down like 1 minute after being cast but it was while I was still getting set up/ready, so I wasn't prepared. Next cast I was ready, and had him on. Unfortunately I forgot that my old reels must be going bad and it was the only line I thought I had. So for whatever reason, the reel was really him in so slow and all the sudden the line just snaps. I hurry up and grab the broken line so I can hand reel in my fish. Unfortunately it didn't go so well. Had him like 5 minutes but then he got off [mad].

Fishing after that was absolutely abysmal until I walked really far to a different spot. There I finally was getting bites but they were either dinkers or weren't interested in actually taking it like the previous hole. So I ditched that spot after gettin tired of just weak bites. I wander back to the hole I missed 1 but didn't get even a nibble. So I had one last shot at getting 1 before I go to family dinner.

Luckily I ended catching one there. The 15-17 inch Catfish must have been starving. Swallowed the bait so deep I couldn't even see it. Hopefully he lives cause I couldn't get the hook out cause I couldn't even find it cause he swallowed it so deep. He wasn't bleeding or anything and swam off fine so I think he's fine.

what's the point of posting the pic if he scribbles all over it?

(he already disclosed the location...)

Maybe there was a floating body in the background?

Or worse yet, he caught and cut up a carp to use for bait and didn't want that seen?

It looks like the cat has 6 legs. Hey, we're only kidding. I hope you take this lighthearted. Noone means to be mean. There was a bunch of funny comments though.

Where did I disclose the location? I've had it w/ some of the posters on here so they aren't getting any look at my spots. Will be going fishing again today, hopefully this time to get a bigger 1. Oh and yeah, that was my coloring job at 2 A.M. last night.

Not sure if serious but that's gotten way blown out of portion. Everything I have said about carp is 100% true/how I feel but the degree to which I care isn't that high. Online I was only talking about carp so it seemed like I cared more than I really do. In person I wouldn't have talked about Carp nearly that much. I think people think I never have killed a fish before but it's not true. I do OCCASIONALLY catch a carp, sucker, etc to use as bait. The difference is that if I don't plan on using it as bait, I don't leave it on the bank or slit it and put it back in the water.

I thought you got pretty emotional. Like you were gonna marry a carp and put in a tank or something, let it wear a pink dress, and have coffee and conversations with it. Good to hear that you will actually cut one up. As for slicing it and throwing it in the river, I'm up in the air on that one. I guess it might contribute to eutrophication, which might not matter in the Jordan. But I wouldn't do it in a trout river like the Weber. Better to just throw it in the nearest dumpster.

In before the cat pictures..

Blow up the pic and look at the reflection from the eyeball; he was fishing in his boxers next to a road sign. [Wink]

I love your posts; I got a good chuckle out of your paint job.

I didn't mean to hit on a touchy subject. I honestly wasn't trying to get you worked up. I just made an observation that your picture was pretty bad. In fact, with your last comment, I'm scratching my head trying to figure out why you posted a picture at all.

+1 exactly man I don't get the point to try and act superior that you got a average cat in some secret spot that had to be edited.[crazy]

I see no problem with blocking out the background to show a wonderful catch.

There was nothing wrong with FL's picture. His Photo shop ability is quite lacking however, for whatever reason.

I realize he has a big ol' bullseye on his chest from the Carp topic.

I wasn't acting superior about my catch. I was just happy I finally got one and like I said, not giving away where I am to A) be harassed/annoyed by "carp haters" coming to my spots and B) have my spots become spots every1 fishes.

So yesterday I was 1/2 on catches. Today I was 1/3 on catches(today was very frustrating, I lost 2 because I didn't tie the hook on good).

Today's trip sucked. Got baked, ruined my pay checks and phone and only caught 1 fish. It was good weather all day so I could see the bottom and stuff where I was walking but really rapidly it changed. It's hard to explain but it suddenly turned super colorful. It had red, orange, purple, brown, etc ( no, this wasn't the sunset). Anyway when this happened, I couldn't see the bottom anymore and I took a wrong step. Chest deep water and probably would have been completely underwater If I didn't catch myself. Apparently water went through my my back pack I was wearing even though it was zipped up.

So since my phone got ruined, obviously no picture. But today's catch was quite a bit bigger than this last one. It was 22-24 inches long, if I was to place a money bet I'd say 22 3/4 inches(No ruler on me). This one was a Dark Gray, Light Black color. He wasn't ugly like they tend to get at 26+ inches but he wasn't "cute" like this last one.

So yeah, I guess if I was you guys I'd say stick to the basics and don't walk in the water. Oh and from observation, if you miss one more than twice, you're screwed and go to a new hole. Also, it's really mossy so you got to try to avoid that.

Hah I guess so. I think some people obviously are bugged by now getting to see the surrounding area. Anyway tomorrowl now I get to handle real world business by myself for the first time. Hopefully I can just buy a cheap new phone and activate it using the same number(hope it's this easy). I also will have to figure out if I can get a new copy of my check or what exactly I'll need to do about that. At least I have a job now to pay for the troubles Smile.
