Lincoln Beach Bigun'
#1
Went out with my crew this .a.m and picked this beast at LB... 30 1/2 inches and 13 lbs. Fished at Bird Island and near the reeds by river inlet south of Lincoln launch. Water temp was 62 degrees in shallow and 59 near Bird Island. Shriimp was the bait of choice today. Caught about a dozen cats, one other 25 incher. Kids had a blast. They have baseball games tomorrow so their Mom let them skip school today. The memories will stay with them longer than what they missed at school today.

The bite is on with the 60s plus temps.

I saw that rated picture on the front page of BFT of a "Blue Catfish" caught out of Utah Lake. Is that one you took the picture of a Blue, or just a strange looking Channel? Or is "Blue Catfish" just another name for Channel?

Either way, nice fish. I hope to catch him tomorrow.

No real blues are a completely different fish, this one is however a perfect representation of one of those "big ol blues" that roam the lake that everyone has a story about LOL! Very nice fish sir! Only catch one or two of those a year anymore as much as I fish for em.

Wow nice cat. I'm still on the lake and have caught a dozen or so but nothing like that. I bet they never forget that one.

Based on the threads that some of the "school bound" kids post on this site, I'd say those boys didn't miss out on anything. Great catch! What a fun day.

Somehow I think you're talking about me. [laugh]. Anyway, especially in Elementary School it's way to much repetition/going over stuff you aren't know/learned so yeah technically you are right that they probably didn't miss much.

What a great fish. Congratulations.
I'll be out fishing Wounded Warriors Sunday morning so I hope the bite continues. If you're on the lake watch for our boat. It will have a special crew aboard.

Thanks for the comments. That old boy is still out there waiting to be caught again. We kept a couple of 20-ish fish to eat and the rest were released. I would just as soon eat my truck tire as one of those old bull channels.

The boys are my gsons and I've got them "hooked" on fishin'. They are twins although you would never know it by appearance or personality. They had a short day at school on Fri. so they did not miss much.

That big "blue" male was caught in about 18 inches of water. I had a real tussle getting him to net. Used 10 lb. test line and that helped head him off from getting into the reeds. Fun, fun, fun.

I plan on getting a bigger one next week.[Smile]

Let's go get 'em.

Nice hawg! Reminds me of one I caught about 10 yrs ago at 2nd Spring, not too far from there. Looked just like that male you got there, except with more battle scars and a messed up eye, lol. Same exact size. I've gotta get out there soon with my tube!

FishMcFisherson, we don't have Blue Catfish in Utah, nor do we have Flatheads. We only have two species of cats in Utah and that is the Channel Cat and Bullhead Cat (aka "mud cat"). Whoever posted that on the front page caught a nice big male channel catfish, but didn't know the difference. The male channel cats can get a "blue"ish type of that dark grey color and ALWAYS have a head that's wider than the body. Females are usually an olive green color and have narrower heads.

No matter how many times it's been explained on this board over the years by the likes of TubeDude, and others, some good 'ol boys still think we have "blue cats" in Utah Lake and other fisheries because of that dark grey color and the larger heads on the males which seem to confuse these folks into thinking that it's a totally different species, when in fact, it's just a large male channel cat.

Happy fishin!
