DWR's online survey — 2014 regulations
#1
In addition to the open houses we're holding this month, we're also collecting anglers' input via an online survey: http://wildlife.utah.gov/2014fishingsurvey. If you have a minute, please take the survey and let us know what you think. Thanks!

Like the idea, you probably get more input this way, with peoples chaotic schedules these days, not always able to attend the open houses. I'm not holding my breath either, at my age i cannot afford to lose anymore brain cells.

I filled it out and it touched on two of my favorite fishing spots: Scofield and Yuba.

Just a couple of questions about both...

at Yuba: is a catch-and-kill policy being looked at for carp there? I don't know many anglers who don't follow that practice (and whenever I've asked the local rangers down there about it they recommend it). Is that the way we should handle carp?

at Scofield: I am all for the "no rainbow" policy -- given the assumption of the question. Will the limit remain 1 cutt/Tiger over 22"? I would favor bumping it up to 24" with a strong recommendation to C&R all the tigers and cutts caught.

Thanks, Amy.

I reinforced my opinion that the current possession limit effectively prevents ANY fish in the freezer, for some species.

I also stated my opinion that the one-pole rule and second pole license are not based on biology but are merely capricious and subjective rules that should be eliminated.

Amy, the survey states that the current regulations at Currant Creek Reservoir include a two fish limit. This is not the case and only affects the creeks flowing in and the outlet down to Water Hollow.

Currant Creek, Wasatch County
From the confluence with Water Hollow Creek
upstream to the headwaters, including all
tributaries to Currant Creek Reservoir, but not the
reservoir itself
.
• Limit 2 trout.
• ARTIFICIAL FLIES AND LURES ONLY.

I took the survey and reiterated my belief that opening the inlet channel at willard was a bad move and hope it is closed in the future, year round this time.

Believe that the possession limit of fish should be one limit of processed fish in the freezer and one limit in possession while fishing or in transit for all species.

Thanks to all of you who have taken the time to complete the survey. We've had nearly 500 responses since it went online earlier this week.

I saw a couple of questions and comments that I wanted to follow up on:

LOAH — Thank you for the sharp eyes; you were correct. There was a miscommunication during the review process, and we made a mistake. I appreciate you bringing it to my attention. We corrected the survey a couple of days ago so that it now refers to Currant Creek only and not the reservoir.

MasterDaad — You had a couple of specific questions/suggestions about Yuba and Scofield. I don't have exact answers, but I will pass along your questions to our sportfish coordinators, Drew Cushing and Paul Birdsey. My guess is that they might not have definitive answers yet. I believe they want to assess the responses to this survey (and the feedback from the open houses) before they work with our regional fisheries managers to put together the final recommendations for 2014.

Everyone will have a chance to weigh in on the final recommendations. They will go out to the Regional Advisory Councils (RACs) for public comment in September. Please plan to attend your local RAC meeting and weigh in on the proposals you feel strongly about.

Thanks again to all of you who have taken a few minutes to fill out the survey and share your suggestions!
