michigan's 4-H & hunting and fishing in jepordy

she is at it again,

if she succeds in her attempts listed below, she will be eliminating the states number one natural environmental study groups, wich includes the study of hunting and fishing quality in the state of michigan.

not only dose this affect hunting and fishing it affects the quality of home education for our kids. there are a number of kids who are home schooled and the 4-H provides a conduet to an unlimited resorce of knolage that is connected world wide.

the msu also runs a weekly outdoor hunting and fishing show.

if she succeeds all this will be lost forever. the new governer who ever is elected will not re-enstate a lost program, no one has ever done so in the past, they will not do it in the future.

It all begins by not educating our children.... there is a feend in the state capitol

if you are a resident of michigan act now...

below is a copy the email I received today. and several weeks ago. this is time sencitive. she is planning to act in the next week.

contact all your reps listed below.

any one watching the news can see how the city of detroits schools are the lowest in the nation and ranks even lower than the schools of war torn Iraq....[pirate]

if you want to protect your hunting and fishing you need to act now.... dont wait.

Dear 4-H Friends and Families,

First, our apologies if this is a duplicate mailing. This is a matter of extreme urgency as decisions will be made as early as next week and we want to be sure everyone is informed.

Governor Granholm has been asking for citizen input on proposed budget cuts to balance the $900 Million State budget deficit next year.

""One of the proposed options is the COMPLETE ELIMINATION OF THE MSU EXTENSION PROGRAM WHICH INCLUDES 4-H.""

Extension receives about $28.6 million from the state, this funds all Extension program areas including 4-H. Without this funding the Extension system in Michigan would virtually cease to exist. This means that support for 4-H programs would be eliminated. As a leader and or family involved you are certainly aware of the many benefits 4-H Youth Program involvement brings to young people.

Your voice is essential in helping our Governor and legislators understand the impact of this budget cutting decision. You can help by contacting the Governor and your State senator and Representatives. and letting them know how you feel.

Keep in mind that your local legislators are back in the district from now until December 2nd. It is a prime time to contact them. You might want to think about having your youth take this on as a "civic engagement" exercise, to take the time to set up appointments and meet with your legislator within their district.! Or at least to simply write a letter or send an e-mail. They should express how 4-H benefits them, their families and the community. What better way to practice their leadership skills and gain an excellent civics lesson.

Contacts need to be made as soon as possible. The governor is expected to issue an executive order to reduce the budget by the end of this month and the cuts are expected to be in place by mid-December. Discussions will begin with legislators on the composition of cuts in the next two weeks.
Michigan 4-H annually impacts 276,000 Michigan youths. Nearly 26,000 youth participate in Oakland County alone!! It is one of the largest "out of school time" programs in the state, largely coordinated by a volunteer core of 20,000 adult mentors. Michigan cannot afford to lose such a valuable program!

MSU Extension was established as a three-way partnership between federal, state and local governments. The $28.6 million from state appropriations is coupled with about $10 million in federal funds, approximately $18 million in county and local funds, and more than $21 million in grants.

This means the state's $28.6 million contribution leverages an additional $50 million. It's an arrangement that supports our

4-H Youth Program here in Oakland County. Without the state's investment, the partnership supporting Extension would collapse and the state's land-grant education programs would end.
