I'm taking my wife and daughter out tomorrow and was wondering if I should hit Oneida or Oakley, leaving from Pocatello so the distance is about the same. Any input would be greatly appreciated, and I'll report back on how we do.
Thank you

Bank? Boat? I don't know much about Onieda and even less about Oakley but there are some places to bank fish at Onieda. It gets real crowded on the weekend so a Thursday trip would be a good call and if not good there are a few other small lakes nearby you could use as a backup.

Last I had heard was they werent going to stock walleye in Oneida any longer. Not sure what ever came of that but with that being said. I have given up on Oneida for now and am going to start hitting Oakley for the walleye. I have fished Oneida for years and the last couple I have really noticed a drop in the walleye both in size and quantity. I have only fished Oneida twice this year but both times I was skunked on the walleye. Can catch everything else. Has left a bad taste in my mouth.

Walleye fishing in Oneida is good right now. However getting one over 20" thats not a snake is very challenging! If u want good sized #'s id say Oakley? (Only fished it once). If you are after a lot of perch smb and eyes but dont care on the size id go to Oneida.

I just talked with garry over at the office on barton rd. And he said that there is no plan on stopping the stock of walleye into onieda, he said that it will continue like normal stocked once every other year.

Well we got there this morning and the wind was howling, we launched the boat and headed up the lake towards the campground, marked fish all the way up except they were all carp. We fished hard til about 2:30 and called it a day. We did manage to pull in one smallie that was about 13". Good luck tomorrow, hopefully your trip will be more productive.

Fished Oakley today, the wind was pretty bad and limited the cliff fishing. Check on wind. Over 10 mph its not worth it. Caught a few but nothing big in the boat.

I have a little formula i like to use when deciding wether or not to go to Oakley. (Town of Oakley WINDMPH+5= Oakley resivoir wind) its usually pretty close. Thanks for the report did you fish for wallie's for trout? I'm biting at the bit to catch my first so next weekend is dedicated to popping the (preverbial walleye cherry[:p]). When Oakley is calm it can be a very peaceful resivoir. Anyway thanks for the report and can't wait to give my own on it.
