CJ Strike access points closed

I don't fish CJ, but I remember seeing access points being discussed in a thread not long ago. Seems Homeland security is gonna step in to protect their cement.

It's to bad about these closures i remember when i could go catch a bucket of perch hanging over the concrete [frown]. Oh well good thing i know a bagilion other spots to catch them shore and boat[cool]. Going to Oakley this weekend and its shaping up to be an outstanding weekend lets hope it stays that way cause im chasing walleye for 4 days straight trout will be thrown back imediatly lol. I'm going to call it "White Meat Weekend"! Thanks for the info and definately a bummer WAS one of my favorite spots to fish down there.

Ya access to the spillway access itself has been closed for a little over a year now & was hoping to see that reopen but now looks like it's closed permanently [bobbeaten]. Used to love to fish there for perch. Damn liberals & Democrats are screwing everything up [bob]

I don't think you can blame the liberals or Democrats for this one.

Pin the blame on Idaho Power where it belongs. They just don't want the public near their facilities. I'm sure they would have just put a gate in the road that goes behind the generator house and close the park below the dam entirely if they hadn't spent so much money on camping improvements a few years back.

This BS cost me my favorite nighttime winter perch and trout spot, and it won't make us one whit safer. I used to fish the eddy to the side of the generator house every time I went there. Now I don't even bother stopping at the dam. What a waste for nothing.

I heard that it was actually Homeland Security that forced IP to close all dams to any access, and the area around them for so many feet but I don't remember what that distance was. Ron

I was down there this weekend. They fenced off the face of the dam, the area around the spillways, and the area around the inlet to the generators. The park is still open.

I think the 60 feet of fencing was a misprint, and was probably 600 feet of fence.

BTW, the House Committee on Homeland Security is made up of 17 Republicans and 14 Democrats. You can lay the blame for this BS on the Republicans' doorstep.

What gets my goat is every time something happens to restrict or limit sportsmen, some people immediately jump to to the conclusion it MUST be the liberals and Democrats. Because the conservatives and Republicans would never, ever do anything that would hurt or limit sportsmen, right? Here is a piece of information you can take to the bank:

Are there some Republicans that support outdoor recreation? Yes, there are. There are also those who think pollution is no big deal and any piece of property that is not actively being exploited and doesn't have a subdivision, clear cut, oil derrick or Wal-Mart on it is a waste of space.

There are also a lot of liberals who fish and hunt and Democrats who support sportsman's issues. Look at an individual's views, not the party they belong to. Stop lumping those of us who don't agree with the conservative/Republican platform into the anti-outdoorsman camp.

I'm conservative, but I have to agree with you. I don't know where political comments had any place here at all.

Problems exist with both sides.

As far as the Homeland Sec. They set rules for all dams in general and don't review individual cases. Over kill in some cases.

I find it interesting that Homeland Security would care so much about the dam at CJ Strike. The dams on the Missouri River back home in SD make the dam at CJ look like a children's toy and there is basically no restrictions for fisherman. Heck, I fish Big Bend Dam quite a bit, and can literally stand on the rocks right below the powerhouse and/or emergency spillway. The same goes for Gavins Point Dam, Fort Randall Dam, and the Oahe dam (4th largest in the entire country).

Seems there could be an agenda involved?

Really? I've read a lot of interesting comments political and otherwise on this forum over the years. But this is without a doubt the dumbest thing I've read on this forum over the past several years. Everyone knows liberals dont like fences...

I really don't understand what the big issue is here. You can still fish the whirlpool area on the Scout Park side. Yes some access is blocked and 6-10 ppl can't fish it at the same time, but you can still reach every area you need to.

No sturgeon fishing is affected on either side.
