Lake Powell accident

Hope for a miracle and prayers to these families. An accident takes a second and can cost a lot of lives. I know most of us see the power squadrons zooming through our lines and coming entirely too close to a trolling or stationary boat. I typically do not wear a life preserver when I'm on the boat. This needs to change. How many of you wear a life preserver?

that is a really good point. I always make sure I have one in the boat for everyone of course, but I can't remember the last time I wore one while fishing. a guy that I work with is down there right now and I sure hope that he's okay.

Wow, thanks for your opinion there, guy.

I recently started wearing one when I'm on my 'toon, simply because I can't fathom the thought of leaving my little girls to some other desperately handsome guy, who will undoubtedly suck at fishing.

My condolences to all effected by this tragedy.

A new rule on my boat for sure! If big motor Is on then life jackets are on too! No exceptions!

That's always been my rule since I operated a friends boat several years ago. Now with a new boat here in my immediate future the same rule applies.

That is to bad.

This is not a boating accident, but a 17 year old kid was fishing/ camping / swimming at Minersville about a month ago with a bunch of his freinds..

He swam pretty far out. The rest of the bunch went about their fun on shore. About an hour later they noticed he never came back.

He was just 17 and had just graduated high school.

It does happen.

I always make sure the kids wear a life preserver, but I never do.

The boat was over loaded, the driver was not looking where they was going...I see people like that all the time at many lakes..They should lock the driver up..

ya that will teach that dumb s.o.b! Really through him in jail[crazy]

I'm sure the thought of the accident will haunt him the rest of his life I don't think putting him in jail will do a positive thing for anybody just cost everybody more money. I'm sure it was an a accident and he obviously would never do it again. I feel bad for everyone involved.

Calling it an accident I guess is a way to make what the driver did not so bad..

Over loading the boat not so bad..
Killing three people not so bad..

And hitting some ones house boat not so bad..

Yep not so bad..

Nobody said it wasn't so bad, it was an accident as obviously it wasn't intentional. Shouldn't really have to explain that. How do you know he overloaded the boat? My brother in laws boat you can put 15 people on. Several of these kids were little. We all get the fact that he made a mistake. It's pretty obvious he's suffering enough, he lost his daughter, wife and future daughter in law (if I have it correct). I didn't post this so we can stand all high and mighty and throw stones at anyone. Odds are high he has relatives and friends reading this post. Be a little compassionate as to the incident and the people it has affected.

We are fisherpeople on this board. We all complain about the power squadron doing things which annoy us continuously. I can't imagine what the tubers see on this board deal with when I troll at a mile and a half an hour and almost get nailed in my 18.5 foot deep V. Either way, it happened, it sucks, and I will be buying inflatable PFD's so everyone on the boat has them on at all times which was the point of the post. Wear your PFD, I don't typically, am changing that now.
