Hey there guys,
Went out on the 3/4 day open-party boat Premier yesterday to fish for some grumpy Calicos. Left at the usual 7am sharp. The load was a mere 9 anglers with Danny and Karl doing the boat duties. Good for us anglers but that don't hardly pay for fuel.
After loading up on finbait and live squid, as well as fresh dead, we headed out to Horseshoe Kelp.
The bite was pretty good as the current and wind cooperated. We didn't move over 4 or 5 times as it was a pickin' bite instead of flurries of wide open bites. If you were patient, you did pretty good.
I was lucky to get a yellow and another guy on the boat got 2 (we both were using 15 or 16 pound test) and ....... won the jackpot. The final count for the day for 9 anglers was 3 yellowtail, 25 Calicos (grumpys) 24, 24 Sandies, 1 Lingcod. Had a couple of sheephead to but they go back for another day.
We had a great day and were back at the docks around 4:30.

Hey JR, sounds like a nice trip. Yellowtails are fun to catch and put up a good fight most of the time.

Hey aquaman,
I almost feel your pain. But honestly.... if you come when things are pretty hot, we'll go on three different 3/4's for 3 differet species and area targets. I think you remember..... it can be Catalina one day, Rigs the next and Whoa.... the 'Shoe' the next. I promise to do my best. I got the lite tackle too if you come early in the season! Don't forget TubeN2 has got a plan for you and I both too! Mercy, Mercy! ha ha
Captians don't like us on the boat when 20lb yellows are pretty common and we like to fish 15lb test! ha ha ha I don't blame them..... a little.
