Transporting a toon

[#502800]I am working on carrying a renegade toon an my old Coleman tent trailer ....... I was thinking of trowling some silicone where it will ride on top........ The top of the tent trailer is rippled aluminum, and I was thinking maybe it would be better not to use the silicone ....... The aluminum top is a light almond color and is not rough to the touch......Any thoughts from any of you that transport toons on trailers?[/#502800]

If you tie it properly, it will not slide around. If you are worried, pick up some rubberized shelf liner that is used for tool boxes. The waffle type. It is cheap at Harbor Freight. Put it between the toon and trailer. It will stop any slippage and can be removed at any time.

What kind of Tent Trailer, how old of tent trailer? I can think of a bunch of ways.

[#502800]Good idea ........ It is an old Coleman Columbia, mid 80's vintage ....... I have two pipe rigs on the front and back where I used to haul a white water boat, but it was hypalon and rode above the top.[/#502800]

I just didn't know if you wanted to put any holes in it. On our flat bed trailer we added a roller pipe using U bolts. Then tie the boat off with the pipes. Looks pretty clean when boat isn't on. I would worry about the boat moving around causing rubbing.

Why don't you just run some stringers from the pipe rack and strap the pontoon on above the roof?

Is it that hard to dissassemble and put it inside your trailer? I know some 'toons are more difficult than others. Mine is an old model but one nice thing about it is 10 minutes and 6 pins and it's broke down and flat.I can get it in a car trunk.
Perhaps I've been lucky, but I've had it over 10 years and break it down and deflate it every trip. It was made in China, and I use it ALOT! Love to have a Scadden, but the prices are insane.

It is frameless so set up is easy. They don't fold up real small however due to the oarlocks, handles, D rings. If space is an issue I get him wanting to haul it on the roof and inflated is the way to do it.
Plus I don't imagine inflating and deflating a pontoon a lot is great for it. For me, the few holes I have got in my pontoon was from transporting not the water.
We haul ours in the back of a Chev or on Yakima rack on the roof. I would suggest Yakima rack for the trailer roof, but very pricie. You can make something similar though.

I never strap it down using the D rings however. With some sort of bar on the roof, you can strap it down like this
