.
Jc Sportfishing Charters is a family owned and operated business and has been fishing in Cabo San Lucas for the past 18 years. Jerry, explains that his charter business is geared more for families and novice anglers, making sure everyone who charters a boat with him have a great time and lots of fun. We welcome families, and groups. We want everyone who fishes with us to take all the sites in and have memorable experience. This is what is most important to us. We have and do a few tournaments each year and can cater to fisherman who might be interested in tournament fishing. Lets get on with the report for this past week.
WATER: The temperatures are still sporadic from one spot to the next. It can vary 5 to 6 degrees from area to the other. The swells are picking up a bit with the storms down south. 1 to 3 feet on the Sea of Cortez side, and 2 to 5 feet, on the Pacific side. Some real green water in some areas, and really blue water in other areas.
WEATHER: It has been really nice weather over this past week with typical day time temperatures in the ladder 90,s to and lows in the ladder 60,s to low 70,s. Really not to bad. The wind has been coming up in the afternoons and evenings so we are seeing some choppy seas some afternoons. Honestly the weather is great but we do have a couple storms creeping up the coast s I write this report. I think one is Dalila and the other storm is named Erick. I am sure we will get some rain over the next couple days but don’t think anything major will become of it. We will keep you posted.
BILLFISHING: Marlin fishing is just tremendous over the past week. So many Marlin being caught all the way from Gordo Banks all the way up to 4 miles off the Light House on Pacific. They are just everywhere. Most boats reporting 2 to 6 Marlin per boat, and it has been a while since we have seen this many fish being caught in those numbers. Please remember to catch and release the Marlin as they aren’t that great to eat and if you want to mount the fish you just have to take the dimensions to make a mount. Really no need to kill the fish we need to preserve for the future generations. I am asking you to participate in what is happening on the boat and alert the captain and crew before you leave the dock that you only want to catch and release the Marlin you catch. Ok enough of my preaching about that lets get back to the report.
The Marlin are hitting about everything under the sun from lures, caballitos and dead Ballyhoo slowed trolled. So this week for Marlin has been hotter than hot and now is the time to come to Cabo and get in on the action.
BAIT: Bait is the standard 3.00 dollars a piece and there has been plenty around.
DORADO: The Dorado fishing has been getting better this past week with some good size fish being caught. One guy did land a 48 pounder but most of the Dorado we are running into are not in schools mostly random strikes on Marlin lures. We are hoping since we are getting into the heart of summer that we will be seeing large schools of Dorado. The water temperature will determine what is going to happen over the next 2 weeks.
INSHORE: Well the Rooster fishing has been hot. Caballitos have been enticing the Roosters to strike. Slow trolling off of Chileno Bay has been a good spot for Roosters. The Sierra bite has been really slow I haven’t heard of many this week. The Red Snappers have also been real quiet, not much to report.
TUNA: Couple days ago a school of Tunas did show up and some boats reported landing 8 to 10 fish. They were caught on Cedar Plugs. The 95 spot is where most of the Tuna were being taken. I understand the fish caught were 8 to 12 pounds on the smaller side.
WAHOO: Havent heard of any this week.
BEWARE: Remember if your not renting charter boats from companies who have been established in Cabo for the past 20 years ( Jc sport Fishing, Pisces Sport Fishing, Minervas, Redrum, Picante Fleet) you might have problems. There are many sportfishing fleets on the internet who are really not established business, who are operating illegally. Lots of these outfits are renting you a boat they have never even looked at and don’t even know where you would board the boat, leaving you the task of trying to find the boat. They don’t even have an office you can go and confirm your charter boat. You do not want to spend a day walking around looking for the boat and where you board. If you wait till the day you are fishing and go to the dock where your boat is many times people will mislead you to another boat or dock trying to put you on a boat that was not meant for you. You need to have a person guide you to your boat, who is from a reputable charter company. This way there is no confusion or misleading. Lots of vendors renting boats in the hotels are not reputable and don’t care about your interest and care more about a commission . 75% of the Cabo Fishing websites on Google are not even in business anymore or might be just brokers who don’t have an office in Cabo. Some of the Google websites are misleading and not established .Please remember when renting Sport fishing boats in Cabo that you rent your boat from reputable and established business. Walk into a fishing fleet office and ask questions about what you are getting and what are the costs. You dont want to rent boats from vendors in the streets and you do not want to book through shady websites offering you the world. You need to go to the fishing fleet office, while in Cabo and book your boat. Check through travel forums about reputable fishing fleets to deal with. Look for testimonials about the fleet your booking your charter with. Ask about what will the boat be supplying? Will it include beverages or lunches? How much does it cost to fillet your catch? Check to see if charter boat is insured? Ask about getting your catch smoked? Check cost of fishing license. These are just a few things to consider when booking your charter boat. We will be talking more about this in next weeks fishing report. Until next time good fishing and we hope to see you in Cabo soon. Come by the office here in Cabo and get all the latest up to date fishing report. http://www.jcsportfishing.com http://youtu.be/AkA6VO5B6iY
