I drove by Sand Wash Reservoir yesterday. The water level was very low. The reservoir was completely capped over with clear ice. No one had been on the ice yet. I didn't check the thickness. Some of the ponds at the LC Ranch (same elevation) had 3 - 5 inches of ice. I may try it today.

North Eastern Utah. Just outside of Altamont and Bluebell Utah. About 25 miles past Duschene.

They are draining Sandwash so they can enlarge the lake. They were supposed to have already started the process, but other than some dirt moved around near the dam, I can't find any sign that they have. I am trying to get some more info on it and I'll post for the board when I can.

Thanks for the update curtisfish. I would imagine there probably isnt alot of fish left in the little bit of water left in that pond. I am hoping to get out and icefish Moon lake soon. I would spend some time and go over to Sand Wash, but I will wait till the State can fill it again.

Have they found some additional water to put in there, if not, not sure why they would want to enlarge it, when they have been unable to fill it -- at least for the past several years.

The lake has been to capacity every spring from runoff. Last spring, water was running over the spillway. The last few years, it has been down almost a third by July, and just plain ugly by August.
Filling it shouldn't be a problem, unless they are still working on it come spring. I guess we will just have to wait and see.

I have only been out there in the summer and fall. I had no idea that they were filling it and then dropping the water so quickly, and so far down.

Kent, the plan is to add another pipeline feeding and fillling the reservoir. They plan on piping more water from the Lake Fork River over to fill it. It currently at high water has 320 sq. surface acres. They want to double that to 640. I guess Roosevelt is growing at too quick of a rate for water use. Last I heard is the state is negotiating with local land owners to buy land to move the road that goes through there, and to buy land for the actually lake enlargement.
