Berry wet!
#1
Headed up to my all time favorite lake yesterday to try and catch some bows for our weekend BBQ, Got to the berry at 6:30 am and had our poles in the water by 10 to 7. I nailed a great fish right off the batt close to a 5 lb rainbow. Great fight into the boat, the bites were consistent and it looked to be a promising day. Soon after we're settled in for the day, black clouds started forming off to the west. We watched it intently trying to decide to run for cover or keep fishing because the fish were hitting great. Finally our decision was made for us and we headed for the ramp. The rain was on us in minutes and we go a good soaking before we pulled in.

The storm hung around for a bit, but as soon as the sky brightened up we headed back out. It was a great day for fishing at the pond.

My question is? 2 years ago was y best season for rainbows at the berry, I caught my largest fish ever 8 lbs and consistantly caught the bows. Last year I was pumped for a repeat but I could not buy a consistant rainbow day, in fact I caught very few and the ones I did catch were small. I spent many days fishing for them and was very frustrated. Tis year it is back, larger fish, And a great bite.

I know there are ebbs and flows at each lake. But was it me or did anyone else struggle with big bows last year.

I can't comment on earlier years, but this year has been fantastic for rainbow fishing at Strawberry.

Last year was much slower in my experience as well.

People get mad at me but I've always said 2009 was peak bows for the berry. Nothin was like 09 fishing. 2010 was okay, 2011 and 2012 sucked and this year it's been better. I've caught some 20+ inch bows pretty easily. Granted I've only been out there twice, definitely a better year this year than a while. [fishon]

We fished the berry Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Thursday and Friday evening about 6 O'clock it rained and the wind blew hard. Saturday morning we stuck it out when it rained, and got off just in time when the hail and rain moved in about 6 O'clock.

We weren't targeting rainbows but I did boat 1 nice bow about 21 inches long on a tube jig, then let it go to catch another day.
