Its Furlough Fishn time at Mantua

Planning on fishing Mantua this friday( its my first day of Furlough at the base so why not???[:p]) and would like to know if anyone has been there lately? Last time I fished Mantua the Algae bloom had started to muck up the water.
Last year it got like pea soup.
So any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Was there last week and it fished pretty good for me. The weeds are coming in fast and the water isn't as clear as it used to be. But its not pee soup just yet. I'll probably go again Saturday, but the following week I beleive is there little valley days. So the reservoir is closed for those of us with boats from what I understand. Good luck!

The pea soup will likely be a non-issue this summer. Thank god! There was too much nutrient release from the idiots who decided to herbicide treat the lake for the milfoil. Thank god the milfoil is coming back and the water is clearing. It was starting to murky up but fortunately balance was restored just in time. That dead vegetation ruined it last summer and I think the that lead to the bluegill plague this year that anglers saw. The water must have had too many nitrates and nitrites which directly caused the algae bloom and fish kill. A good fishery doesn't need restoration! Stop treating these lakes! Keep phragmites on Utah lake! lol.

I was completely unaware that herbicide was used there. I don't like the idea of Mantua without all the mantuweeds.

I took my kids up on Tuesday 7/9 and we had a good time once the sun started going down. We used worms and caught several bull bluegills and even a decent bass.

[ Keep phragmites on Utah lake! lol.[/quote]What? Those phragmites are wiping out gamefish populations. The bass can't find a way into the gravel and shoreline to spawn. Too much cover for baitfish. Worst of all when the crap dies in the fall it stains the water permanently! The stuff is a waste of vegetation. I know of two bass ponds it has destroyed...completely. Carp can't even live there.

What ponds? I'm curious. It would be nice if they cut out some alley ways in the phrag at Utah lake. I think that would be good.

Out by the Great Salt Lake. They're completely engulfed by phrag now. Fish are GONE!

If your thinking about the place I'm thinking of. The drought has done a number on that pond. Water gets lower every year. The increasing carp numbers hasn't helped either.
