Do I need a rudder?
#1
I have a 2011 BassHunter EX with a 55lb trolling on the front transom and a 8hp Yamaha 2 stroke on the rear transom

Not my set-up but here's a visual reference http://www.fishingmonthly.com.au/app/web...Hunt_2.jpg

Next month I'm taking the boat on quite a few waters that only allow electric only motors. The trolling motor is hard wired through the hull so I just can't swap it to the rear transom. If I run the boat as is (with trolling on front) and with the gas motor removed do I need to add a rudder? I'm concerned that with the trolling up front and no weight in the back the boat will track around to either side whether I want it to or not. Suggestions....Advice?

I don't see you would have a problem but why do you have to remove the gas motor? As long as your not running the gas motor, is it illegal to have it on the boat?

I can keep the gas motor on the boat if I like. Dropping to save space...big tank, also drops a lot of weight off the boat so I can carry it in and Hillbilly launch. Boat is cool, fits in the bed of truck.

8 hp! Wow! that seems large for that size boat.
I don't see it tracking any different than a pontoon , so I am thinking the electric will work fine. I think it will work better pulling instead of pushing.

How is it licensing those things?

Yeah the guy I bought it from only fished from it by himself and took it on some big desert lakes so he wanted a larger motor on it. Personally I think it's overkill lol. State saw it as any other watercraft, think it was like $18 or something like that to register it.

I have a 10'6" pontoon that flies with a 5 hp. Wouldn't have thought that boat was rated for that size. Interesting, could be fun.
Like I said though, I use a Minn 45 on my 10'6" and it cruises just fine, but I have the motor pull, not push and on the back. The haul of that boat looks like a Pontoon sort of or twin haul so I would think it would track the same.

We use our 45 on our 14' Aluminum going forward and it does pretty good.
