Articulated Fly
#1
Not a plug for the company just a really cool way to tie that I wanted to share.

Streamer swim baits!

Tying some of these up is WAY beyond my skills. Know a couple pro guys who make beautiful flies and I'm going to have them tie me some up.

Holy Fish Fry, Baitman!

That's an incredible lure. (And I bet it will carry a heart-stopping pricetag, too.)

The actual articulated spine kits aren't supposed to be that expensive. I do agree the 'game changer' pre-made ones will probably be killer expensive.

Still though! I could see just slaying the bass on a fly rod with this, also looks like something a big brown couldn't resist.

Damn, I did a forum search to see if anyone has posted about it yet but no results were found.

FG and her secret decoder ring subject titles[Tongue]

You are correct about the Umpqua not being available until 2014

No worries, great post as mention earlier I thought these spines weren't going to be available till 2014, Looks like Flyfishing co has them for sale. Better get them now before Umpqua starts distributing them im betting once they do the price will go up.

There's a guy that I've fished with here in AZ that builds custom rods and he just let me know he's setup to be a dealer for them. Going to see what he can get in regards to quantity and price. I have a feeling once the pre-mades come out they're going to fly (haha good pun) off the shelves.

Yeah let us know Id luv to get hold of these spines and tie up a few chubs and bait fish patterns for the berry. Plus Fall season isn't to far off for streamers.

Looks to me like they'd be dead simple to make up yourself if you had some spring wire. Tying the things might be another matter.

Yeah I was kinda thinking the same thing they almost look like a cotter pin. But like to get my hands on them and see what material im working with.

Did some searching around and found at least one verified component of the Umpqua, the body is made from http://www.orvis.com/store/product.aspx?pf_id=6c0pand then trimmed to shape. It almost looked like he was using an attachment from a beard trimmer to mow it down.

I wonder if you could incorporate this stuff into the fly for the tail

I like the way you think. I am currently using one of these shank that is about an inch long. I have attached a small salt water hook and tied them up in my Gartside Softhackle. It puts the hook right at the back of the fly but the fly has a lot more movement.

I think more folks responded to this one because I look better in waders [sly]

What about really stiff trimmed feathers for the tail or a stiff type streamer hackle trimmed? I'm not a experienced enough tyer to be positive what would work best for the tails.

I was thinking that too. I haven't tried this particular pattern, but I have bait fish patterns.

Okay I have in my email his full pricing list. His website is up and running but he doesn't have all inventory listed yet. My buddy isn't prepared to go fully live with his tackle and custom rod shop until he retires soon. He has said that he will do orders by demand for individuals or group purchases as a favor to me and the BFT community. He also carries Jim Teeny products.

If you guys want to get together and do a group order the savings go up greatly. This is what he's offering right now:
0 to 99.00 15% off MSRP
100.00 to 249.00 20% off MSRP
250.00 + 25% off MSRP

I can absolutely vouch for him and his level or work and service. He's often at BassPro or Cabelas doing classes and demo's on his custom rods and whatnot.

If any of you are interested in his price list, please shoot me a PM with your email and I'll shoot the pricing over. Again this is not a public offer, he'd like to keep it amongst friends for now.

You guys are funny. Give something a new name and a clever marketing plan, and ya'll break a wrist plopping down your wallets. They are just different sized Waddington shanks tied in series. Guys have been tying Spey with double articulated for a long time. Most places only allow single hooks so the Waddies work best when tying Octo stingers.

Save some of your hard earned money and go to Feathercraft and index Waddington's.

Joni, I really like the idea of Swenson pins. I have made Waddingtons from Stainless wire before, too. Sometimes the Waddies are hard to find. Specially before swingin season.
