.
Jc Sportfishing Charters is a family owned and operated business and has been fishing in Cabo San Lucas for the past 18 years. Jerry, explains that his charter business is geared more for families and novice anglers, making sure everyone who charters a boat with him have a great time and lots of fun. We welcome families, and groups. We want everyone who fishes with us to take all the sites in and have memorable experience. This is what is most important to us. We have and do a few tournaments each year and can cater to fisherman who might be interested in tournament fishing. Lets get on with the report for this past week.
WATER: It is still mixed up a bit with some areas 5 or 6 degrees different from one another. Of course the Pacific side is cooler normally and the Sea of Cortez is warmer. Looks as if the Blue Marlin are following the warmer water and the Striped Marlin don’t seem to mind some of the cooler water. Swells have been about 2 to 4 feet on the Pacific with swells on the Cortez side smaller at 1 to 3 feet.
WEATHER: The weather has been really good with sunny days and highs pushing 100 degrees about every day with lows in the low 70,s at night. We have been picking a breeze in the afternoons and evenings but really not to bad. We woke up to rain today Sunday morning as I write the report there was some thunder and lightening also. We have tropical depressions Gil and Henriette both are way out to sea and moving west as we speak. I am thinking this rain w are getting is a local squabble.
BILLFISHING: Well the fishing did slow a bit but the fishing for Striped Marlin is still very good. There were also 5 or 6 Blue Marlin caught out at Cabrillo about 45 miles out from Cabo. The fish were caught using lures. The 95 spot was hot for the Striped Marlin and about 7 miles off the Light House was good for Stripers also. Most of the Striped Marlin were caught on lures and Ballyhoo. A couple striped Marlin weighed in at 150lbs and there were a couple Blues in the 300lb range. Looks as if the Blue Marlin are here so we are going to be seeing lots of great big game sport fishing over the next 3 months. We are lucky because we always have Striped Marlin action year round. I did hear of a couple Blues being caught down in the Gordo Banks area also. Its going to be a good week coming I can feel it!!!!
BAIT: Bait is the standard 3.00 dollars a piece and there has been plenty around.
DORADO: The Dorado are getting bigger with some topping at 25 to 35lbs from the 95 spot to the Light House about 4 to 6 miles offshore with most taken on lures and live bait. They are following the warmer water also so if your catching some Dorado you might also run into some Blue Marlin.
INSHORE: Really spotty inshore fishing this past week we did get some Rooster Fish, small Tuna and small Dorado. Some of the Dorado close to shore weren’t even keepers so they were pretty small. Football size Tuna close to shore also not a lot but a few. There were a couple Roosters caught and weighing in at around the 30lb mark. The Pangas were fishing basically from Santa Maria beach to the Light House on the Pacific. I wish I had more to report on the inshore fishing.
TUNA: The Tuna are inshore some days and then the next day they are 10 miles offshore. Some of the Tuna caught offshore were running with the Porpoise and most were not that big mostly small ones football sized. They are hitting cedar plugs and striker kings. We have also been getting some blind strikes randomly. We did get one Tuna this week at the 95 spot that was a cool 65lbs.
WAHOO: Havent heard of any this week.
BEWARE: Remember if your not renting charter boats from companies who have been established in Cabo for the past 20 years ( Jc sport Fishing, Pisces Sport Fishing, Minervas, Redrum, Picante Fleet) you might have problems. There are many sportfishing fleets on the internet who are really not established business, who are operating illegally. Lots of these outfits are renting you a boat they have never even looked at and don’t even know where you would board the boat, leaving you the task of trying to find the boat. They don’t even have an office you can go and confirm your charter boat. You do not want to spend a day walking around looking for the boat and where you board. If you wait till the day you are fishing and go to the dock where your boat is many times people will mislead you to another boat or dock trying to put you on a boat that was not meant for you. You need to have a person guide you to your boat, who is from a reputable charter company. This way there is no confusion or misleading. Lots of vendors renting boats in the hotels are not reputable and don’t care about your interest and care more about a commission . 75% of the Cabo Fishing websites on Google are not even in business anymore or might be just brokers who don’t have an office in Cabo. Some of the Google websites are misleading and not established .Please remember when renting Sport fishing boats in Cabo that you rent your boat from reputable and established business. Walk into a fishing fleet office and ask questions about what you are getting and what are the costs. You dont want to rent boats from vendors in the streets and you do not want to book through shady websites offering you the world. You need to go to the fishing fleet office, while in Cabo and book your boat. Check through travel forums about reputable fishing fleets to deal with. Look for testimonials about the fleet your booking your charter with. Ask about what will the boat be supplying? Will it include beverages or lunches? How much does it cost to fillet your catch? Check to see if charter boat is insured? Ask about getting your catch smoked? Check cost of fishing license. These are just a few things to consider when booking your charter boat. We will be talking more about this in next weeks fishing report. Until next time good fishing and we hope to see you in Cabo soon. Come by the office here in Cabo and get all the latest up to date fishing report. http://www.jcsportfishing.com http://youtu.be/Ld4X16bFT-
