WILLARD BAY RAC MEETING
#1
I would like to let any BFT members that are interested in voicing their concerns about the Willard Bay inlet open to year round fishing (mainly during the walleye spawn) that there will be a RAC meeting concerning Willard Bay Wed. the 7th of August at 6 P.M. at the Brigham City Community Center. If it makes you sick to have the numbers of walleye reduced in the lake by methods such as snagging during the spawning period I should think you would want to voice your opinion. I hope to see ya there.[fishin]

Amy may want to confirm or contradict this, but the Willard portion of that meeting is listed as "Informational" which I assume means that they will NOT be seeking or accepting input on Willard.

Somebody will make a short presentation about the spill and subsequent cleanup - and that's it.

I wasn't sure what would be on the agenda, but if it has to do with the inlet I would like to attend. Maybe someone will chime in with more info, thanks.

The RAC meeting you will most want to attend will be in September. That will be when the fishing regulations will be covered. This meeting will discuss the license fee changes and other non-fishing items.

Per the DWR; "The RAC meetings to discuss fishing regulation changes for 2014 will be held September 10–18."

Thanks Barry, I had read Kent's link above with the RAC meetings for the year listed and did note the one that was scheduled for 18 Sept. In Brigham City. I wasn't sure if the one this week would have anything to do with the inlet or not.

I just noticed this discussion thread. RockyRaab is correct: the Willard Bay presentation at the Aug. 7 RAC meeting will be informational only. It will focus on the Willard Inlet issue from this spring. The RAC might choose to allow limited comments or discussion, but the RAC members will not be making any decisions or recommendations about the Willard Bay regulations (or any other fishing regulations) at that meeting.

All of the fishing regulation RAC meetings (for the 2014 season) will occur in September, as doggonefishin mentioned. The RACs will be held Sept. 10–18, and then the Wildlife Board will vote on the regulations on Nov. 7. I hope this helps!

[font "Calibri"]The Willard Bay inlet issue may not be on the official agenda but time has been set aside to talk about it specifically. Members of the newly founded “Friends of Willard Bay” project have formally contacted members of the RAC, DWR, etc. to ensure this subject is covered and time is set aside. I would like to ask that anyone making the meeting to keep it civil. Drew and Chris have been beat up enough. [/font]

I have my feelings and thoughts on the body of water I have been fishing since 1976 and I don't think I need to be told what or what I can't say if asked. I was one of the people that signed a petition back in the late 70's when the DNR was asking the local fisherman on their feelings about closing the inlet to fishing during the walleye spawn.

You should repeat out loud what you just typed in the RAC meeting and see where it gets you. Just sayin'. No need to take a defensive stance is all.

Thanks but no offense was taken by PACKFAN's reply. Me and Pete have visited many times on this exact subject and we both feel the same way and want to stop and close "the killing field". There's a time and a place to get mad, but there's also a time and place to use diplomacy. That's all I was trying to say to the masses.

I sat in a open house meeting with three DWR biologist and one of the individuals (a fisherman) in the meeting started pounding his fists on the table because he wanted the inlet closed NOW. As soon as he started doing that I could literally see the walls being put up and the ears closing. To me that was as smart as yelling at a cop.[:/]

The individual that requested time be set aside to discuss this issue is a former RAC board member himself. He knows the game and I believe he'll play it well.

Hope to see you up there Pete.[Wink]

Well...my apologies. Hard to tell what is going on behind the computer screen sometimes. I'm glad to hear that you and "Pete" are involved in the RAC meetings. If you don't mind how about a quick rundown on the meeting afterwards? I can't make it and I'm sure that others that can't make it and would like to know also. No pressure [Wink]

I hope there will be a good turn out, even if it is just to listen this time around. I'm pretty sure I know the individual you are talking about that was pretty upset, we talked this summer at Willard and he deffinately has some hard feelings. Two of my best friends are cops including a son-in-law and I yell at them all the time[:p]

Pete, which is it, Thursday or the 7th? Because Wednesday is the 7th and Thursday is the 8th.

With over 1000 views of this thread, I hope we will have a fair turnout tonight. I'm sure there are mixed feelings toward the Inlet being open year round.

1,000 views doesn't necessarily mean 1,000 people viewing. 100 people checking it 10 times would give you 1,000 views.
