My New Fishing Dog..
#1
Made a trip to get my new fishing dog this last week and just had to drop a line or two it Idaho and Montana..

We hit the Beaver head river and the Clark and a few others I'm not sure of the names..

The Beaver head had lots of Browns from 17" on the small side to some just over 28" with a few bow..

Some of the rivers like the Clark was so clear you could watch the logs move on the bottom in 20"+ of water..

Yes logs that was Bows over 25" and Browns to 31" (Rick got the bigger one) Coerdalene to pick my dog..

Then we fished our way back..

Not in it but on the south side where all the willows are next to the road we fished the streams, and Rick tried for his Moose or was it the Moose who tried for him..[crazy][cool]

Get real, it's a pup not an old arthritic dog. A fit healthy dog can swim for hours/ many miles. My dog learned to swim on the Smith River In Northern California at age 8 weeks after picking her up in Southern Oregon. What's he going to do buy a new vest every 2 weeks because it'll grow out of the old one that quick for the next 6 months.

I'd have to agree with not needing a vest for a young dog. It's rare for a healthy dog to flounder and drown. I've watched my lab swim nearly swim the width of Smith & Moorehouse chasing down a floating log, he came back to shore shook himself off and was back in the water.

Nice looking pup even if it looks more like a hunting dog than a fishing dog.
I'm sure it'll enjoy water. Just remember riverdog is already taken. My riverdog seldom misses a chance to go fishing for 8 years and counting now.

When fishing Flaming Gorge late June with a Labrador Retriever fishing dog, I got a big fish close to the surface near the boat when it managed to release itself from the hook. I don't understand! It was right there! The fishing dog didn't jump in after it! His brother jumps into icy cold water to retrieve ducks one after another, so why doesn't this dog retrieve a fish? I hope your fishing dog performs better!

My dog blew a disk chasing a tennis ball in the parking lot and came back dragging his hind quarters!!!! [mad] He's much better now but he has permanent nerve damage so he really doesn't quit know where his hind quarters are. He's still "go, go" but if he blows another disk or similar event out in the reservoir or swimming in the river I fish, he'd sink like a stone w/o a vest. It took a lot of concerned forum memebers to convince me, but my imagination of him sinking out of site while I'm tubing changed my thinking. He's my best bud!!! My dog is very hyper and athletic, but why risk it????

Good looking dog! What's the excuse for not taking pictures of these 31" Browns?

Meh, 31" browns are hardly a picture worthy fish... I mean people catch them all the time lol

My old pup would swim by the fish when they jumped and put her head under the water to watch the fish..
And if I put one in my live well she would watch it in there ..
