Looks like our own wiperhunter2 and his son. Why such a long rod for fishing from your boat?

I'm guessing for leverage to fight that sturgeon

I am not new to sturgeon fishing, I have caught over 100 of them. I own a 12' and 15' rod myself that I use for fishing for sturgeon from the shore; however, I never use them on my boat. I find it much easier to land sturgeon, on my boat, with shorter rods (6 to 8' long). That is why I asked the question.

Owned the gear before the boat, been trying to break the poles so I can retool and like the Goddess says "it looks cool". My son and his buddies make fun of me cause a bass fish with spinning gear, but guess who's cashing the checks? Invites will come out in October, I found a 110 ft hole at CJ, while bass fishing last week.

I think the deepest I have seen is around 90 feet; however, the deepest water I have ever caught a sturgeon in is about 45'. I hear that they like the deep holes during the winter months.

Really enjoyed getting out there with you Dale, hope we get another change to give it a try. I'll try to get my son to post the pics you got for him on his phone. Did you take any other pics? He said one of the pics on his phone did not turn out too good. Thanks. By the way, Gertrude is one heck of a boat[cool].

Hah - that's funny, that's the name I graced my 50s Mercury outboard with. I always find it helps if I talk sweet to her when we're out on the town (well, the water).

Dude - you're not supposed to hold their head out of water maaaaan! <jk>

Sounds like a fun trip. That's something I gotta try someday. Bucketlist.

I think folks are just jealous about the size of your pole. As long as you're comfortable with it, that's all that matters!

Did you get or estimate a length on that beast? (I know how tall Curt is, I meant the fish)

The old girl sure works well for listening to old rock, discussing world events and soaking morts. Banging into rocks kinda makes the hair on your neck stand up. Can't hardly wait for the water to come up again, IdahoRon has been busy excersing the fish in the honey hole. We take turns depending on water levels, it's a public service. Tight lines.

PS: spent the weekend at massacre rocks, really slow in cloudy water, did manage a 2 fish limit each day. Winning boat had 14.79 lbs with a 4 fish limit of smallmouth, they culled twice. My son caught an 8 lb rainbow on a jig, lots of trout surface feeding.

She's a tough old boat for sure.
Wow, almost 15 lb for the winner, that is an average of over 3.5 lbs per fish, nice. An 8 lb bow is huge, are bows that big caught often there?

Lots of big trout from American falls to minidoka dam, I just don't fish for them on purpose and besides trout is for baitSmile
