Fishing around Lava Hot Springs?

My family is making a trip to Lava Hot Springs for Friday and Saturday. I would like to do some fishing while we are up there. Any places or advice anyone could give me? I am a new/novice fly fisherman and wouldn't mind trying some up there. I also am not opposed to traditional tackle.

You can fish the Portneuf River either right below town or just above.

There are also two or three accesses on the river further up above town. I might be pretty weedy right now.

Before I left town the river was filling with weeds and shrubs. The fishing was ok but you had to work for them. Below the town is not to great. But above is ok. My suggestion break away from the beaten path, but if your just looking to hook some fish then go to the lower access they stock it frequently with rainbows and they are fairly easy to catch..
