It was a long expensive trip to strawberry from Provo via SLC I15, Parleys canyon to Pak City, Heber, up Daniels canyon to Soldier creek and ultimately Aspen Marina. It required pilot cars, permits, fuel and time. Fortunately the cost was donated by several who dug deep in their pockets to make it happen and for that we are grateful.
We were there for the CAST for Kids Foundations event hosted by the Bureau of Reclamation. Our big boat is one of the only boats of its kind that is wheelchair accessible and there were several children that couldn't have participated hadn't we took her there.
The event started at 7:00AM registration, then off fishing for the morning. We had a fantastic time with numerous s that dazzled even the mountain sunlight.
We were back in at noon for a lunch and award ceremony. Then we returned to Aspen Grove marina hoping to get a little fishing in advance of a scheduled Wounded Warrior trip the next day, but a violent thunderstorm prevented that so we stayed in camp trying to keep dry.
The following morn a van from the Vets Center brought our veterans and we were off again. The fishing wasn't up to standard of the previous day, but we managed a few fish including a 4 pound plus Cutthroat that was 25 1/2".
It was a great week end and are planning on spending next week there again fish Wounded Warriors.
To all of those of you that were up there as volunteers and boat captains making this CAST event possible, I can only say "thank you from all the kids that were there.
