I was just wondering if it was possible to catch very many of the red Kokane on the Solider Creek side this time of year when they are starting to spawn. If i remember correctly you can't keep them if they are red right?
Also do you just use the standard dodger and squid to catch them?
Thank in advance!

Your memory is not correct. No restrictions on kokanee at Strawberry except for some stream closures.

If you can catch them on the Soldier Creek side, I say more power to ya. I have never even seen there, but anything is possible.
I would think the bag limit still applies.
They are pretty much toast anyway if they are red.

I can't remember if we took pics. It's been a couple of years. Typically they were quite deep (60+ feet) and I had to get them with the downrigger.

I hope I got one. I am still there but as soon as I get home and down load. Might not have taken one though as it wa not big and not blowing smoke but catching has been Insane. I fish 2 flies and 2 poles and fish on 3 of those at the same time from a pontoon. Loved it! But not a lot of pictures.

This time of year, I usually see at least one per trip, running shallow along the rocks near the dam. I got a video of a pretty big one a few years ago.

I caught these two weeks ago on the soldier creek side. It's neat to see the extreme difference between the males and females.

Thanks! They were both caught in the morning that day and were both at 40 feet down. Those are actually the only 2 "bigger" salmon that we caught on that side this year. Most of our salmon were caught on the bay side...before it turned over. My luck on the soldier creek side has been that I was seeing more in quantity for kokes but not in quality. As for the bay side, the quality in salmon was a lot better but you had to weed through the many, many, many cutthroats.
