Mud bogs (Yankee report)
#1
I couldn't help myself today. I headed out to do some early morning fishing instead of working on my traps and getting ready for finals. Well I tried the ramp side of the lake this time because of those drunk guys and all the misses they had.

I got to the lake about 30 minutes after sun up and some what got my car stuck but it wasn't bad. After making a quick survey of where other people had been fishing I start punching a couple holes to check the depth and thickness. 4" of so so ice and worked in 6 ft of water. I didn't get even a bite for about a hour and was thinking about moving into the deeper water when those drunk guys/girls from last weekend showed up. It turned out to be one of my old friends who moved down south and just moved back. I got my first bite when I was talking with him. I missed that one but got another shortly after. I caught 4 more before we decided to try the cove next to the inlet. We didn't stay there very long but did get 3 more in. They moved all the way to the east side and I headed over to try some of my old favorites since the ice was thick enought to venture out deeper. The wind almost blew me across the lake and it really made it hard to notice those light bites. I got tired of trying to stay in one spot so I headed back to see how they did on the east side. Oh I did get another 5 fish and lost 3 at the hole. Well, to make a long story short I rounded out the day with almost 20 fish and felt really bad since they manage to out fish me. Ya right, between the two of them they landed a big 1 fish all day and they hooked that when I came back. Frustrated about the situation they were going to try some place else and didn't care where.

Well I've been trying to get my buddy from Parowan to take me to a couple of the private ponds in the area but since he wasn't with, I didn't do it. OKAY,[sly] I did it and it sucked even worse but over all it was worth it see some new country and I always love new water even if it was private property.

I hear about all these awesome ice days up north and I can't even break a meesly 20 fish all day. If things don't get better down here I'm going to be begging for somebody to take me to one of those slamming lakes up north. I can already feel the crappy ice fishing blues coming on.[crazy]

Oh I forgot the mud bog part. Heading up to the lake the road was nice and frozen with a few spots of snow and ice. I didn't get a single drop of mud or anything on the way in but when I left the ice was starting to melt and big puddles were forming so I knew the road was going to be bad. I took my car for this trip and after busting threw some of those bigger mud piles my car was covered with that beautiful red mud. It was nothing like the old days but after I get back from my little fishing adventure I'll give it a much needed bath.

No need for a 4X4 when you got speed. [cool]

Yeeee Haaa is right. Most of us local drive like redneck and if we get stuck,[pirate] hope the redneck behind you misses.

Hey southernman I'm still looking for a hot lake but every place I've been sucked or is slow. If all else you can come up to Panguitch for hopefully some good fishing and enjoy some of that good food.
