Pictures from when Lake Mead was at it's highest in 1983
#1
I posted a few days ago i inherited my family's photo albums. I have only been told stories of how high the lake was "back in the day" and how you could dangle your feet in the water at the top of the Echo Bay Launch ramp. Honestly I didn't believe the stories until I stumbled across the photo's below.

I also have been told about how they had hotel rooms at Overton Beach back in 1983, until the lake rose and swallowed them up. I didn't believe that, until I found these pictures. I would of only been 2 years old when these were taken. All I can say is wow, where did all the water GO!!!!

Thought some of you would like to see these. I tried to find other pictures from Overton Beach back in 1983 through GOOGLE and couldn't find anything that actually shows what happened when the lake rose so quick.

Wish we could actually have one of these 100 year floods to fill the lake to the level it should be so we all can stop worrying about our awesome and beautiful lake.

Ahhh the good ole days I remember in 86-87 going out to the Las Vegas wash when it was a working marina. I remember fishing on a hillside just below the campground area. and I also remember watching people's rods go flying off that hillside never to be seen again. one day my dad actually snagged one of those said rods with the fish still hooked, the guy was there still and gave us the rod, he only wanted the fish. it was about a 10lb striper. [fishon]

anyone remember looking down from hoover dam (when it was full), and dreaming they could just drop a line from there and hook one of those GIANT catfish and striper just swimming right below the surface? I know I did.

also anyone remember fishing the "jetty" at boulder harbor? its now high and dry but I still remember people trout fishing out there and "accidentally" catching a huge striper while reeling in a trout.[fishon]

good times, good times!

'83 was a hell of a year for runoff!!! Almost collapsed Glen Canyon Dam (Lake Powell)...youtube it! These lakes were rising over a foot and half A DAY, which is a HUUUUGE amount of water for how ENORMOUS these lakes are! Yeah, I am praying for a HUGE winter this year, looking good so far, knock on wood!
