Post front this time of year is just tough!! Unless your last name is James, Brown, Neal or Townsend, the guys who finished 1,2,3 in the Classic! $10K!! Wow, can't imagine!! Well, our days were tough, but we had opportunities we didn't make count. Day one we decided to try to get a limit early on traps & Whiplash with worm & then throw frogs in the afternoon. Worked pretty well as we got 4 in off a flat by about 9:30. Moved to frog grass & caught our limit fish but they only weighed about 10#. Missed about 4 blowups until 2:00 & they finally got more active. Culled 3 fish including Brent's 5.1# that gave us 14.68 & 14th place.
Day 2 was the same plan, went to flats & caught 3 keepers on traps but Brent lost a real nice fish that pulled drag twice & then pulled loose. Moved to the grass mats again about 9:30, had 2 missed blowups, then Brent gets a 2.5 on the frog & I get our 5th keeper on the frog, but we only have 10#. Then we can't get a fish. Miss probably 6 blowups including a nice 3# that Brent sets the hook on, skids him 6' across the mat on the hookset, & the hooks just fall out! Finally move to a mat at 2:30 that had produced for us in practice & I caught a 4# & 3.1# in about 5 min. to cull our 2 smallest to end up with 14.75#. Ended up in 10th place with 29.62#. Man, I love frog fishing when I'm out there having fun, but in a tourney it can be heartwrenching! emoBang Especially on these post front days & TVA yanking the water up & down, the fish just seem to try to move the frog away most of the time!
Anyway, fun, fun season getting to fish these with my son, who thankfully, is such an accomplished fisherman that he takes up my slack most of the time! Also, got some fishin money as we got over $1200 with our tourney check & Sportsmans Whse. gift certificates & free entry fee for finishing 4th in the point standings!
All you guys who have ever thought about coming out & fishing a CBA season need to make the commitment & do it! Especially if you can team up with your son or daughter or a youth 16 or under. CBA has great incentives for youth teams! Youll also meet some great guys & some of the best fishermen anywhere. This is our 2nd season & we've learned SO much competing with CBA.
