#1
Does anyone know about when fire hole at FG normally gets safe ice, my brother in law is expecting his 2nd daughter bout bash time and wants to hit it as soon as possible so he can get some burbot action.

Talking to people right before first ice and after first ice is the best time to go.

I talked to a guy that drilled holes from shore in inch deep ice and slayed them last winter.

Firehole is pretty shallow 40' at best so it freezes over pretty quickly. Depending on the temp it can freeze over a week or two in December. Normally around Christmas is a good time to find ice.

In January and February it is around 2-3 feet thick, if you go then it is best to find drilled holes, unless you have a power auger.

Hopefully temps drop soon, in need of an ice fishing outing. This time of year I get real anxious

Haha it's bad, been watching YouTube videos.... Not helping me at all. Convinced the wife to go out this year at least once, but thinking PVC for some fast perch action.

You tube videos will make it worse. Time to find another hobby. To take my mind off of it I mess with model trains.

Extra question. Where's a good spot normally for perch at PV. Did cemetery point 3 years ago and tons of small ones and narrows last year was awful. Just wanna land some good perch so maybe the wife understands the addiction haha

I think that is a question everyone wants to know. It's been a weird year with the water being low.

If I remember right was it PV that took awhile to ice up as well? Less water means less room to hide! Or atleast that's what I've convinced myself

It's pretty tough to find consistent big perch at pineview. Good news is this summer I've been catching more bigger ones, so hopefully it will be the same during ice fishing.
