Bear Lake options?
#1
I will be up there the few days after Christmas with the family... I was wondering if it's worth bringing any fishing gear? I don't think ice is an option from what I am hearing and I won't havea boat up there, but is there any chance for any semi decent shoreline fishing right now? New territory from me, so any help or tips would be greatly appteciated. Or are there any other lakes worth hitting in that area?
Thanks!

Bear lake is tough from the shore. You could make a run up to Montpelier Res. There is plenty of ice and not a far walk to fish. There are tons of perch and once in a while you get lucky and catch a koke.

you could always try the marina and see if any white fish are left swimming around, which may also bring in the occasional trout. There is also a small community pond that is stocked in the summer that might be fishable if any water is flowing, or for ice fishing. the pond is in garden city just north of buttercup lane. Turn up butter cup and take your first right I believe. It will take you to it. good luck.

Bear Lake is going to be kinda tough from shore...but you could defiantly hook a few cuts i would imagine!

Garden City Community Fish Pond had around 5" of ice and I would think would be safe....we installed a well for that pond and there is water running in on the east end, you can't miss it..use caution around there as it leaves a small section of open water as it flows in. There should be a few thousand Rainbows and some nice cuts left in there...

Randolph Reservoir has been fishing well I am told and Montpelier Reservoir has been very hot for smaller perch action. Laketown Reservoir should also have safe ice and usually fishes quite well.

There are a few options around, no doubt!

Thanks for the info, I ll look into the reservoirs, as far as the marina, this is referring to the marina on the west side, with the rock pile? What parts are you allowed to fish or where exactly can I go to just throw a line in? Fishing isn't allowed inside the marina right? So can you go there and walk out and fish the open side?

If you want to play the odds on getting some fish, I wouldn't bother with the marina right now. It's VERY treacherous right now from the ice coating the rocks and the fishing from shore is really slow. Like natural born rebel said, I'd hit garden city pond or little creek reservoir (Randolph reservoir). You get to little creek by turning west in Randolph at the Zion's bank and staying on that road till you hit the lake. If you have four wheel drive, lake town reservoir has big fat rainbows that are worth catching as well. The bummer about bear lake is that it rarely is worth the effort from shore. Just a few times a year from a few special spots. Good luck!

Ps. The folks at dees service station in laketown can give you directions to laketown reservoir.
