Ice fishing around Boise?
#1
Hey folks, I'm up in Boise for Christmas and hoping to get my new flasher out on the hard deck? Any advice where I should go?

I've been looking at CJ Strike but I'm not sure it'll still be solid with the warmer weather...

Going to hit Strike on Friday so can't help you there. Lake Lowell is solid and fishing good, Cascade seems to be hot also.

If I can make it out I think I am going to try Lowell. Nothing else close ever seems to freeze over, maybe Lucky Peak if we have some good cold weather.

I am also curious if people ice fish Brownlee much, I haven't seen a single mention of it. My buddy in Weiser went to check it out, there was ice, but it was in the dark and he didn't have anything to drill holes with. He was just looking on the Idaho side, didn't go down to the dam.

I would be very careful of Brownlee. The Snake is running right through it and moving water and ice is a very sketchy thing. My advice would be steer clear and don't take the chance, if you feel you have to go make sure you have friends with you, but be very, very careful. I know this sounds contradictory because I'm going to Strike but I am going to where the Snake does not run through it.

I wondered if that was why. I have seen some past reports on lucky peak, although it also involved a post about someone falling through. I am probably more cautious than I need to be on the ice the few times I've gone, so the info is appreciated. I might take a 4 wheeler out one day, people with cars and trucks out there make me cringe.

I assume that is why Swan Falls never gets mentioned either. I think I'll stick to the fairly still water, Roberts and Mctucker when I'm back in IF, and Lowell over here, maybe Cascade and Strike.

The Bruneau sand dunes located just a few miles East from the Bruneau arm of C.J. would also be a good bet for some nice gills and large mouth bass. Should be plenty of ice, I had a good 7 to 8 inches of clear ice when I fished C.J. last Friday. I drove by the dunes last Sat. and there were people fishing it then. [fishin]
