Took my nephew over this morning to Hyrum and about froze my So. Cal. Relative. Fishing was okay, we got 10 fish with most being Perch, but we did get one bow that was about 12" and the perch were small except for two 8"+ fish. Had to call it a day early after about two hours and I sure didn't want to quit, but had to. Don't know why I didn't go to Mantua I knew Hyrum isn't producing very well for me but I guess it's easy to fish. Well we got the first fish on spikes and waxies and the rest on perch eyes. Fun even though they weren't very big. Later J

Good report Jeff. I got up there during the week and it was a little better but for the most part the fish were smaller. We did manage a couple browns like the ones you caught in the Fall. Have you tried Porky yet?

Yes it was great to see after him being so cold he wanted to quit 15 minutes into the outing. Always fun to see them have a great time. Thanks for the comment. J

Hey Curt, glad you found the real fin less fishes. They were fun and big enough to be interesting. I really haven't tried too hard on these ice trips lately, they are short trips will lots of limitations and since we turn everything back we really aren't trying very hard. I haven't had enough time to try the pig yet but hope to soon. Kind of mixed up schedule for me for awhile but its fun. Catch up to ya on the ice one of these days. Later J

I've had a big brown right up to clear ice, before it broke off.... exciting to see all the same. Need to give that a try. Wonder - do you offer them something different than the standard trout/ice fare? Maybe some of them airplane type lures. Tried last year, just nabbed a few bows.
Now Jeff - looks like you got him a good jacket, but was he wearing sneakers? "Oh it's ok, I've got three pairs of socks". Good thing it wasn't a slush day!

I'm game for taking a poke at the Pig anytime. Was just thinking at Mantua - it MUST be cold enough to have chilled those edges by now. Wonder how ice that road is? Never having been, would love to tag along if anyone's making a trip that way.

Yote, For the browns, the last one I caught through the ice was on the Pig last winter and it hit a jigging spoon actively jigging... Nice fish about 3 lbs...
As far as warm coats went, I had to get him to wear mine to warm him up, I seem to be able to stand more cold than most people I take with me, so I need to dress lighter so I get cold the same time they do... He had my Cabela's blizzard boots on so his feet weren't a problem, mostly hands and body core... No fat on him to hold any heat all skin and bones...
Anyway, what are we doing on TD's invite? Want to see if he can go New Year's day? If so where to Mantua? If he can't make it maybe we ought to hit Porcupine? Catch ya later... J
PS... Will likely bring my nephew with on New Years
