If you do not catch your brown at Blowout, go to Big Elk and fish near the shore in 8-12' feet of water, if you go deeper than 18' stay suspended at that depth. If you stay to dusk you and any sort of bite is going you should get your brown! My son and I have caught some nice ones this winter. One weekend we caught 5 large suckers. The problems of Big Elk of course is the hike out is insane and the slush monster.
Good Luck I hope you catch both. OC [signature]

Thanks for the tips . If I catch a sucker , should I cut it up for bait .I have heard that works good for Browns .

I would put at least a chunk on one of your rods. We caught a couple of cutts that way using a white glow tube jig.

Just got home , had a great day on the ice . Fishing was slow for us . We only landed two and lost a few . The ice is 20 plus inches . 4 " of snow , edges great no slush anywhere .

Thanks for the report. I have not seen ice that thick at Pali
![]() How much snow is on the ground there to trudge through to get down to the lake? [signature]

First we fished 1/4 mile north of Blowout . We landed two and lost 3 in 3 hours . Then we went almost to Big Elk , The south point just before you go into Big Elk . Never had a bite there . The deepest snow was about 4 " on the lake . I think if I go again . I will fish on the east side of the Dam . There is a trail down to the water . I think fishing in the rocks , would be better than the mud flats .

I have not been up there yet this season. Last season I did better south of blowout ramp than north. Follow the shoreline from the mud flat to where the bank gets steep and further on to a "knoll". This is about 1/4 mile is all. I did fairly well in that area. I stayed fairly close to shore, not more than 20 yds out. I was fishing at 6 to 15 feet down in about 20-25 fow. I was catching browns and cutts..

I have never fished there when it is this low . South of Blowout looks like mud flat . I have done well in the spot you are talking about , but that place if high and dry .

Hasn't anyone went across and fished Van point, Sulphur bar, Edwards or Big Spring creek?
All reports are on the East side. Guess, I will have make a run across and have a look see around Feb 6 or 7 when I get home. Ouzel [signature]

When we were there . There were 4 people on snowmobiles on the far side of the lake across from Big Elk . They sounded like they were doing well , pretty loud .
