They are going to build a Cabelas in Ammon . Whats your thoughts . I think they should build it closer to the freeway. I bet Ammon is giving them some big tax breaks and that's why they are building there .

I like the idea they want to build in Ammon, mostly because I live in Ammon

It might have an effect on Sportsman's for awhile, but after you see there prices you'll be back to Sportsman's.

I just hope we continue to support our local fly shops as they will provide service and local knowledge that Cabelas just can't provide.

I don't know about your Cabela's, but ours is a bit lacking in the Fly Fishing supplies. More catalogue orders on that. And the prices are high but that just makes the sale items look that much better. LOL
Fish Tech here is the fishing headquarters, in my opinion, but Scheels is close, and getting better,

There's a freeway in Ammon?
Cabelas is fine, never thought the fishing departments of the ones I have been in as overly spectacular.
I would think it could only be built so big for Ammon/IF and wouldn't be one of the giant ones.

Very interesting... I'm betting it will be something like the one in Yakima, which would make the ones in Billings and Boise look friggin HUGE! Surprised that they would have it that far off of an Interstate though... Anyhow, I will believe it when I see the construction starting and the sign saying " Coming Soon... Cabela's".
One more option for getting more goods! I love me some Bargain Cave!!!

I heard it will be only 25% the square footage of the Utah store.
40,000 vs 250,000

You had a Sportsmans , and they closed it because the community did not support it . They were losing money . I live in Blackfoot , and liked that store better than the one in IF .Plus it was closer to my house .

I guess it is better than driving to Boise or Lehi. More show than go....
I have found the customer service Online with anything I buy. Keeps the big Box Store's in check...
If nothing else stick with a local shop!!
Still looking for HD Dynamic lures in either of them....

So true on the tax breaks........money talks, more than the market, location, etc. etc. I saw this as the case in Reno where negotiations dragged on over a year because the city wasn't willing to pay the price. Apparently they eventually folded under the pressure from Cabelas and the store was built. Milwaukee, WI. on the other hand stuck to their guns unwilling to give the store their ridiculous tax breaks and other considerations. Eventually Cabelas worked out an agreement with the town of Germantown which is I think about 25 miles from Milwaukee.

Reno folded under the pressure? I would think Reno would welcome the employment and future revenue.
I know the one here in Lehi was under negotiation which I am sure all new locations do. And they did the Tax exempt for a period of time. But it did offer a lot of jobs before and after it opened. So the state gets those taxes from the people. Just how I looked at it.

Walmart wanted to build a store in Twin Falls Idaho . They would not give Walmart what they wanted , so they built the store in Burley Idaho .I think it is more about city than state .

Is Germantown one of those places like so many metro areas? You wouldn't even realize you were in another town except for the signs telling you that you are? If so, probably made no difference to Cabelas, basically the same, maybe even larger customer base they would be relying on? Location definitely factors in and perhaps it didn't make that much difference in that instance.
Does Ammon stretch to I-15? I couldn't imagine them building it unless it was pretty much right off the freeway. IF metro alone just doesn't seem large enough by itself to support what I think they would expect and there are so many of them scattered around anymore, who would venture off the freeway if not in eyesight just to visit it? Just not as special anymore to go to a Cabelas. Kind of diluted anymore.
