I spoke with a Hyrum state park employee this morning and he said there are 3 to 4 feet of water on the edges. Has anyone been on the ice yesterday or today? I don't mind using a plank to cross the edges to get on the ice but once on the ice is it thick enough. Taking a youth group tomorrow. Also how is the ice at Mantua?

The ice out in the middle should still be plenty fine, but you'll be in for a slushy, watery treat with this timing.

Thanks for the report on Hyrum. I actually stopped by Hyrum and Mantua today. Hyrum had 10 feet or more of open water between the shore and the ice pretty much all around the reservoir. There wasn't one person on the ice fishing. You were right also the ice was rotten and gray everywhere I looked. Mantua was just as bad. I actually broke through on the edge of the ice just off the dike this afternoon testing the ice out. Wet trip home. I did see 3 guys fishing on the far south east end of the Mantua but have no idea how they got out there. I will be taking this weekend off. Not that fun when the ice conditions are so bad.

Thanks for the reports. Clincher.
If I make it out at all, I'm searching for wet water. Might still swing a short rod and itty bitty ice lures...maybe look for carp needing a good beating...

Yote, liquid or solid, doesn't matter what the H2o looks like.
Spring Cattin is a month away.
