Just wondering if most of you use your same reels on both ice fishing rods and normal spinning rods
or
Do you have separate reels for each type of fishing?[fishon]
Thank you for your input

I use separate gear. Broken bass poles make great ice poles.

I do both. I usually take the reel off of my ultra light and put it on one of my ice fishing rods.

I've always used dual purpose smaller to medium sized spinning reels for ice fishing, they've always worked great. Any good quality reel with a decent drag will handle surprisingly big fish through the ice.
Kind of off the topic, but In my experience one of the best things an ice fisherman can do is choose the right line. The last few years Ive been spooling the Berkeley monofilament ice line at the start of ice season, and have much better luck with line knotting and coiling due to the cold temps. The line has far less memory, and light strikes are transferred to the pole tip much better.

I use lite tackle all year round. I switch out the rods but the reals and tackle remain the same. I caught 30+ inch fish all Sumer on 6 lb test. That yank and crank are for the bass tourney peeps.

Same reels same poles, same line, all season long. Currently using plf president and ugly sticks. All you need different is ice lures. There is a definite difference in what fish will respond to in the open warm water than in cold water. Line test doesn't seem to matter, I like trilene xl in 10 and 12lb test. Used ice poles in the past, they were cute, but inefficient in terms of hook setting.
