Has anyone heard if they have voted for the license fee/two rods change yet? Or is it some subclause of the state budget bill still being argued (as always) until the last minute of the session?

Rocky, I bought my lic and 2nd pole permit online last week. At that time it was still $26.00 for 365 day Fishing Resident, and $15.00 for 2nd pole. I guess if it does change this year I'm stuck with what I got. But mine were gonna expire on the 6th of March so had to get-r-done. Do ya think I could get a refund if it changes..? [ ] Ya, I know, don't hold my breath.

Hello,
The license fee package has passed through a couple of committee hearings with no significant changes. It is my understanding that it has not been voted on by the full legislature as yet. Assuming that it does pass, we expect it to take effect July 1. Until then you will need your license and a second pole permit.

Refund? From Utah? HAhaaaaaa!
Unless the plan changes, the new rates would take effect later this year, but not be retroactive. So if you buy a license now you are under the old law until a) the new date passes AND b) you buy a new license after that date.
You're good to go until a year from now, either way. I will have to buy a new license by mid-April, so I'm out of luck on using a second rod without that added fee - until next year. Maybe.

Thanks, Paul.
I assume that (assuming passage) COs will still enforce the one-rod rule after July 1, if a person has a pre-July license?

Sadly they would have to PHYSICALLY check the license if it does go through.
Really kinda lame in my opinion, but where one buys a 365 day license it would make it tough anyway without physically checking.
New laws need to be executed at the beginning of the year, seriously.
Yup, my hubby and myself are the regular license and the $15. extra pole class. Figure maybe next Feb I can save.

I have asked that question previously and have not received a satisfactory response. Our media folks know that this is a question that has arisen many times during this process. I am certain that they will prepare news releases informing the public of how it will be enforced once the new license structure is in place.

Well, it's the goobermint, so no matter what they pass, almost nobody will be happy about it, at least in the 364-day "hole" where two kinds of licenses might be afield.

Just so I'm caught up, are they proposing in the future that anyone can use two poles without paying for the 2nd pole permit?
Cool!
Can I pay an extra $15 for a third? [ ]

Is there another method that "physically" checking an anglers permit? Have they added e-chips and I just didn't know? Kinda like those "toll-booth-cars" they have out east, just flash-n-run!
[center][crazy](there - emitocon added)[:p]
But really - they do, or should check permits more than they do. I've showed mine, seen a fellow "angler" who spent MUCH more time with the fuzzy ones, and I'm pretty certain was being processed. I'm actually happy to show mine off when I get a chance - badge of courage if you will.
Rocky - I agree with you (see, I could do dat!) about how they'll transfer the function, or not. I asked those same questions last summer, at the time thinking the 2nd pole change was due to take effort with the calendar roll (which it has not). Decided it was worth my while to shell out then, and enjoy what time I had. Good choice (see below! Friends with benefits - slap a Crappie in the middle and call it a Kitty-Oreo!)
I'm rarely effective with two poles, typically focus on one, and bumble the other, but it's been pause for crazy doubles, or a drop the perch and fight the musky experiences.
I'm not complaining mind you. I like being able to have to different offers, or riggings in action.

Basically, it means the license will be going up around $8.00. For those that never use a two pole, they will now have that option whether they like it or not[ ]
For those that do get a second pole permit, you will now save $7.00.
Now, you only have two hands, how you going to use that third one?[ ]

Next time the price of gas drops (if it does) go back to the station and see if you can get a refund. You bought your license, and it is valid for 365 days.

This is a fee increase intended to provide more License fee revenue. It will negatively impact only those that bought a single pole license in previous years, this group is by far the largest segment of fishing license holders.
Just another State agency picking and choosing which group will pay more to meet there unrestricted spending needs .

I have yet to buy a two-pole permit in my 28 years here. But I can see a small benefit to doing as TubeDude does and cast with one while a bait rig soaks near the bottom. If the law passes, I'll try that. Next year.
I don't much care about the license cost - it's absolutely the cheapest thing about fishing.

There was going to be a license fee increase regardless. As for negative impact, yep, the guys who chose not to buy a second pole permit will bear the brunt of this new fee schedule. Everybody bought the "single pole" license in the past. I always thought that the second pole permit was bogus. They used to sell trout stamps. Then they decided that was illegal. They don't sell "Tiger Musky" stamps. With the new fee structure you'll be able to use 2 poles. Whether you choose to or not is your decision.

Agreed on the impact. As far as the price going up, I never thought I would be paying over $4. for a Gal of milk or paying $800. for a Graphite fly rod. Inflation hits everything. But, then I do get raises (just not enough[:p])

Can you tell us what the House or Senate Bill Number is for the proposed fee increase?

Ha ha. So true. But some of us can't do catching as good as those of you who have mastered it, so if I could hang 8 poles off my pontoon and figure out how to keep from getting them all tangled I'd do it.
