Salmon River - 3/14 - 3/16
#1
Driving back home from our weekend trip to the the Salmon (as a passenger). We fished Friday, Saturday, and Sunday until noon. We caught 9 fish (5 wild, 4 keepers) between 4 of us, and didn't see a whole lot of others being caught. The water was pretty good, possibly a little high and fast (not sure on CFS). Water temp was about 39. We fished mostly below the Ebenezer Shelter. All the steelhead we caught were down there. We didn't mess with the crowds at Dutch Oven though. We may be up fishing again in the first part of April after another cousin's wedding. We had a good trip and met some nice people. Great memories with my dad, brother, and cousin. Thanks for sharing Idaho!

I'll second this report. My wife and I got grandma to take the kids for a couple days, so we fished the Dutch Oven reach all day Saturday 3/15 and until 5 on Sunday 3/16. Wasn't terrible but it wasn't awesome by any means either. She hooked 3 both days and I hooked 2 both days.

Most of the good fishermen seemed to be hooking 2-5/day.

We thrashed our favorite hole Sunday (had it all to ourselves to boot) and were a little disappointed that we didn't do better. Water color was fine but there was lots of it. I would like to see it 200-500 cfs lower myself.

I thought we had hit the nail on the head timing-wise, so I was kind of expecting the fishing to be closer to stellar. Goes to show I guess. . . . Nevertheless, we had a fantastic time together, and I would do it again in a heartbeat. Of course, I could (and have) gone down there and got skunked and still came back with a Smile on my face. Real therapy.

I had great weekend at the Shoup fishing grounds this past weekend, Right Place Right Time, I guess. Ended up landing 9 and lost probably 8 more at the first hole my wife and I fished. Had to change holes around 4 because the guy next to us broke two 30 yard lengths of line of in the middle of the hole and then switch reels and broke off again and it was no longer driftable. Moved down the the lower end of the X-out hole and landed my 10th fish of the day which was a nice wild hen that was probably close to 32". However, something changed on sunday and was only able to touch one fish. However, we moved back to our first spot and me and some fishing acquaintances were able to pull out the line left from the day before.

Any particular rigs that were working better than others? Colors?
