Ooglay 'Bow and Courtesy
#1
Well had nothing to do today so I decided to go to a community pond and wet a line for a little bit. Caught this fat ugly piglet (attachment) on a blood red crystal bugger. As soon as I caught it, brought it in and released it two people started casting into my path. I understand it's a community pond and everything but still...Where's the common courtesy? I walked around the whole pond to find a spot where I wouldn't even be close to anyone and here comes these two people casting right in front of me. I don't know maybe it's just me but people that go to community ponds just don't seem to give a rats ass where they cast. God I can't wait for some high country solitude!

Unfortunately greed and ignorance win out over etiquette and decency these days. Same kind of thing happened to me on strawberry this weekend. Had some idiots set up 20 yds (if that) away from us and even had the guts to use holes we had drilled while searching for fish and were still using. Then, for some reason, felt the need to drill about 20 holes in 30' radius. Was at a loss for words but def made my displeasure known to them. They even had a kid with them. If that's how the next generation is being taught how to fish, it's going to be scary in a few years. Combat ice fishing on a massive lake. C'mon people. Seriously?

Yeah man that definitely blows. The same thing happened to me at Lost Creek on the early ice. I was by myself getting hits and landing Cutts and this group kept moving closer and closer to me every time I got a hit or landed a fish. They kept giving me dirty looks like it was me intruding on them. People are just jacka**es nowadays. [:/]

Seems like every where you go you are going to run into people like that. Cant get away from them, and if you dont see them fishing you can probably tell where they were because of all the trash they left behind.

I probably woulda said something, and it might not have polite or politically correct. Might lead with a "ahem, do you mind" and see where that goes. But I could guess. Nice toad there - brooder maybe?

Like last night - at Walmart (ruh roh) I have collected more than I could comfortably carry. I plunk it down at the fast check, SAY I'm going to grab a cart. Walk 20 paces while the two in front of me get checked. Return to some Walmartian pushing past my stuff to get checked out. That gal behind the counter had told her "I don't know who's that is" - guess she missed the eye contact?! And me walking up with a cart?! Right then!

I call off Large Marge and point to my stuff ON the counter "I'm next - excuuuuuse me". The counter gal takes the next 5 minutes punching numbers, making beeps until she FINALLY is ready to check my handful of items. Don't get it - she hadn't run a single or Marge's items. Yes it WAS less than 20 I had, despite the full carts I've seen roll through the quickie check.

Takes all kinds. I bet she fishes community ponds too - with a net on stocking day at that!

Even when I've run into people I KNOW when fishing - I'll ask if they mind. Keep a heavy heavy weight handy. Pitch it right over their line when they cast in front of you. Maybe a snagging treble - find it helpful for those overzealous Jet skiers too.

Maybe keep a loud ghetto blaster handy with the most offensive obnoxious music, or Dub Step - and point it AT them - full volume. My dad tried that with a raccoon family in the attic. But they kept moving the radio and changing the station.

I should have said something but I'm not one to instigate anything. I'm a lover, not a fighter...well most of the time. I was fly fishing with floating line and they kept going right over me. I think I'll keep my spinning rod with me and chuck some crankbaits or a good ol' reliable Jakes their way.

I think the term Community Pond should have been your first guess that things might not go so well [:/]

Haha. I have no clue. I can't see me handling those monstrosities of a fish. But maybe, I need to get an 8 or 9 weight for my Washington trip in August. I'm hoping for some steelheads.
