My son wants a dog. Have anyone of yea had any luck with the Chesapeake breed? All, I have ever had was dingo/heeler mixes and labs. He is in his early teens. I would prefer a dog that hunts, both ducks and Mtn. loins.

Thanx.

Be prepared I have a 13 week old lab/Chesapeake mix, So far all my chair legs have been chewed, cat mauled constantly, all hands, feet are fair game to chewing on. But wouldn't change it lol. Also potatoes and some metal has been harmed

Picture a very protective lab. They will usually pick one person and be less friendly to all others very different than a lab. They need to be obedience trained and socialized as a pup because they are big powerful dogs that will bite if they feel threatened. I've never hunted over one but I hear great things about them.
I also hear they're not a good dog if you want to hunt them alongside your buddies dog as they will start fights.
Retriever breeds will chew.

With all this said I love my lab but I think he could use a little bit of these traits and I would like to own a Chesapeake Bay /lab mix one day.

Chessies are awesome waterfowl and pretty good at upland(ie. pheasant) but another breed you might consider for waterfowl and fur is a German Wirehaired Pointer or a Drauthar(might be spelled wrong).
They are used for tracking and catching fur animals as well as pointing , retrieving birds and great for ducks. (I run 2 of them)

I've had chessies for the past 18 years. I will not own any other dog because of their attitude and toughness. To me they are the very best waterfowl dog created. Got my first pup when I was 12 and once they bond with a person they are yours forever. Although many say they are aggressive, I personally I haven't had one. All my chessies had the attitude "I wont start a fight, but I will finish it!" All comes down to spending a lot of time with your pup. My dogs were easily trained to hunt ducks, geese, upland birds, and sheds. Bet you could train to chase Mtn lions.
