I just checked the latest satellite photo and Cascade appears to be at or very near ice free. Should be open water for the weekend for those interested.
Cascade ice free.

Not so. I was there yesterday. Ice is VERY thin, but still covers much of the reservoir. I was able to fish for 5 hrs before the wind changed direction, and within minutes my lines were pushed into shore and buried in ice. Had to break off as i could get my sinkers through the ice. Fishing was slow. Brought home one 2lb'erñ and lost a dandy after a 15 minute battle...

It can change pretty fast in a day. It will be very soon. Satellite picture isn't conclusive but I can't really tell the difference between open water and ice so it is very thin. I'd even bet on ice free by Saturday.

Tackle Tom posted new pics today. There is plenty of ice, but it is thinning fast.
Here's satelitte pics from 2 days ago and today. It won't last long.

Fished tonight. Lots of ice between Crown Point and Sugarloaf. Dam area was free of ice. Main body of the lake still has ice.
As for fishing it was good. Caught a limit in an hour and a half. All between 16"-20". [signature]

I was thinking of running up Sunday, is it worth it. And how and where do I fish it. I am avid Kokanee guy that does good and catching them, except for today. Don't go to arrowrock is was terrible, Windy no fish everyone we talked to was the same also. What to use for coho up there?
Same a Kokanee? [signature]

Re: [flyfish03] Chesterfield ice? In reply to If you don't get any first hand reports, here is what the satellite could see on the 12th. Two days old, but it is a higher resolution picture than yesterday's. The darker the color the more open the water. Looks like it is breaking up and upper is open. There might be water open around the edges too. Can't really tell that from the sat. picture, but I would guess that it is getting melted enough that there should be open edge especially where any of the creeks come in. By contrast AF is fully open, and Blackfoot only has a couple of places where the water is beginning to open. You have to really know where Blackfoot Res is to even spot some of it getting melted. edit....I cropped this picture too close to see anything but the tip of Blackfoot Res...so never mind. Here is where the picture is from: http://activefiremaps.fs.fed.us/...p=fire&passID=258775 from here I think [signature]

fishing was not too hot for us today. we managed a handful of fish. all were very nice, fat, healthy fish. we did lose one very nice one right at shore that was in that 2 1/2lb+ range. the wind was bad the entire time. next trip will be trolling the shorelines. ice was gone everywhere we could see. we were a ways north of crown point.
