Wow, is that right? What river are you talking about? What stretch? I was hoping it wouldn't blow for another few weeks!

Salmon River
the whole thing
No doubt. I was pretty much done, but I figured there was still a couple weeks of good fishing left.
If you get up around Stanley, it is pretty big water for that country right now. I fished in that much before, just depends how muddy it is - it generally stays fairly clean up there unless things get really out of control. I would imagine anything below the EF is starting to get pretty crispy though. Best concentrations of fish should be above the EF by now anyway.
Hopefully it mellows out soon.

Thanks for the information.
My dad was up last week before the warmer weather, and said things were still stable, but with all the snow I guess it doesn't take much.
I would think most of the fish are above the EF by now too. Well maybe I'll keep an eye on the weather and reports and make a decision next week.
Thanks Got_Bait

Was up yesterday afternoon. Water was off color above Challis and up more than a foot from what it was on Tuesday. Visibility at Squaw Creek was about 18-20". Basin Creek seemed to be the culprit for the dirty water. Above there the water was rising but clear when we left last night. From the weir at the Sawtooth Hatchery to Redfish Lake Creek was packed with fisherman. Still lots of snow that has softened up so that you post hole trying to get to the river. Bring your own rock. With the dirty water below, the upper river is jam packed and the fishing is suffering from all of the waders in the water putting th fish down. Lots of smolts to deal with trying to catch a returning adult. Heard the river is totally blown out at Ellis but did not observe it personally.

chillout, thank you for the report. Were there still very many people from the Yankee Fork and below fishing the cloudy water?
Still debating on whether to go up this upcoming weekend. We generally fish the river bottom below town there in challis. Between the dirty water and the fact that most of the fish have probably made there way above the E. Fk (along with the congregated fishermen) I may just have to throw in the towel for the Spring Steelhead season.
