Made it to Yuba for the first time this weekend. Spent a couple hours trying things out this morning before getting a pike about 22 inches. that was my first ever pike. Exciting for sure. Not much else the rest of the day. I will be here until Monday and wanted to ask if anyone had any tips on where to go. Hope to get my father in law a fish this weekend. Being a newbie its just trying different places. Never fished for pike before today so not sure what I'm looking for. I just heard try close to shore. Also anybody had success for walleye? Its a long day and I need to see if I can find some more action. Appreciate any help. Hope to get a few memorable pictures.

try 3 1/2 to 4. Inch white tube jigs tipped with any fish meat. fish them slow next to the bottom. if you feel like you hit a weed set the hook. fish next to the island 5 to 10 feet deep you'll catch carp for bait. We got15 last week doing the same thing. mornings work best till about 1030

I have been in Utah for 30 years, and never made the stop to Yuba until last year. I took my wife and we had a blast. We head out from the boat launch at painted rocks, and fish the shore line headed N and E.
I was out a few weeks ago and snagged into 2 big pike (32 and 36 inches) cast a floating rapala that is about 5 inches long. We also had good luck on a jointed shallow shad rap, 2 3/4 inch long. It is important to get the shallow shad to fish this way.
What we do is head along the shore or into the bays and move around with the electric motor when possible. The boat is in about 3-6 feet of water and we cast towards shore into only about 1 foot of water. Usually this is within 2-4 feet of the shore line. Play with the retrieval speed as what they want seems to change daily.
Where this gets really interesting is the other post about the white tub jigs was correct in how it feels half of time. You will get some light snags, but any time it feels like a snag set the hook and set it hard. The other part, and this is my favorite, is when they take the lure and begin swimming out. The only way to notice this is to watch your line, as it will start coming in much faster than you are reeling. When this happens reel as fast as you can until you have no slack and slam hard on setting the hook.
I hope you and your father in law find some fish. I will be out there Wednesday and Thursday so don't catch them all.
